Streamside Trail in Mercersburg
Where History and Ecology meet!
What will funds donated here support?
Our $150,000 goal will allow our non-profit organization to purchase the materials needed to build a handicap accessible trail for walkers, strollers, and cyclists. Volunteers will help to build the trail. Your donation will help make Mercersburg a more vibrant active and connected community!
Embracing this trail area and stream will help preserve Mercersburg's early history. The trail will traverse the area where Mercersburg first began as a mill town. Building the trail will also help the community revitalize the stream.
Building of the trail includes:
The restoration of natural wooded and field habitats with educational signage including both histroical and ecological information.
A gazebo and seating areas for wildlife observation.
Streamside rebuilding and storm water management where needed as part of the a stream quality awareness and long term stream revitalization project.
Mercersburg Area Council for Wellness (MACWell)
The Mercersburg Area Council for Wellness (MACWell) is a non-profit organization which was founded to create and support a groundswell of personal and community commitment to making the Mercersburg area a place that inspires its people to live well. Just as the family you're raised in affects your health choices, the environment in which you live impacts the choices you make.
Mercersburg has joined towns and cities across the country who are working to create environments that encourage physical activity, nutritious eating habits, and a balanced life style. Our Council is a volunteer organization founded in the Spring of 2008 by interested health providers, school, business and community representatives.
