LuLu's Medical Bill MCHS

Donation protected

Macon County Humane Society got a call yesterday about a dog sitting in the ditch that was alive but not moving around mile marker 45-46 in I85 South near the tree line. We couldn't just leave her there, so we went and found her. She was so sweet and receptive of help. So we picked her up and rushed her to our vet. While she was being evaluated, we contacted the phone number on the collar.  Her owner rescued LuLu 8 months ago. LuLu just didn't like to stay put on the land and kept running off. LuLu is a very loved the dog, but she just likes to roam. So she surrendered LuLu to MCHS so we can treat her and help find a home for her. The vet suggested that we take x-rays and see what the extent of the situation is, then make a decision. The vet put LuLu on fluids and started x-rays and made her comfortable for the night.
Our vet called me first thing this morning. Looks like LuLu was hit by a car about 3 days ago and she has been laying in the ditch ever since. She has a shattered right arm with and open wound and her pelvis is broken in 4 places. He is comfortable doing the surgery to fix her but needed the ok within a few hours because infection was setting in and they needed to start surgery.  She will need 2 surgery's that will be 4-5 hours each. He said LuLu has the best demeanor and she is so sweet. She is 3-5 years old and believes she will make it just fine. Her recovery will be extensive and will need upto 3 months. We need an experienced foster to care for her during her healing time. PLEASE let us know if you can help foster her.
In order for us to save LuLu, we need donations. We have recently been overwhelmed with intakes. We have over 40 dogs in our care, plus dogs in foster. Just this week, one of our fosters Buddy, was shot in the face. Because of the extent of his injuries, we made the decision to let him cross over the rainbow bridge. MCHS is doesn't have a facility and we are a foster based shelter. We can not help incoming dogs, unless we have a home for them to go to. The Macon County Humane Society is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization established in 2003 in Macon County, Alabama.  With our small group of active and highly dedicated volunteers/members, we are making great strides in addressing the pet overpopulation problem and alleviating animal cruelty and suffering in our community.  We will do much more, but we need your help. We are asking for $4000.00 to help us cover our current vet bills and LuLu's vet bill.
