Loving Wife/Mother Lost Too Soon

On January 22nd, 2018, my cousin Desiree Strout passed away in a car accident while on her way to be induced to deliver her third child and first boy.

Also involved in that accident were her husband, Harry Weeks, and her oldest daughter. Harry had extensive damages, but he will recover. Unfortunately, Desiree did not make it.

We're still unsure if the newest member of our family will make it.

Our family is nothing if not strong and united. When something happens to one of us, it happens to us all. With the loss of Desiree, Harry is going to need the time to recover and adjust to a life without his wife.

It is for that reason we would like to help him by covering the cost of Desiree's funeral, and helping as much as we can with their medical expenses.

The plan is to have Harry in charge of the final expenses.

To be clear: Current plan for funding is for me to withdraw the money into a bank account specifically set up for these expenses. Money will then be spent from this account to cover the costs that need to be covered. Anything left over will be converted to a trust in the name of the children.

This morning at 9am I met with the lawyer to start the process of getting the trust set up for the girls.

Now, the reason we went with a trust is because of, well, trust.

You don't know me, most of you. I don't expect you to trust me. I'm just a name and a face on a website. But, Desiree was my first cousin. The one closest to my age. The one that I spent the most time with, and literally live across the street from.

I didn't want the fact that you don't know me to hold you back from helping us provide this family with the breathing room that they desperately need.

The trust gives very clear guidelines on how the money can be used, and so we can only use it that way. It is very clear, the girls are the beneficiaries, and I am not legally allowed to use any of the money to benefit myself in any way.

I like that because it is not ambiguous.

It is their money, and as soon as they reach a certain age, they will take control. Until then, I'm just keeping an eye on it for them, and cutting checks for the necessities for them.

I hope that helps people to see that this isn't a money grab, like we always fear. This is what it says it is. And the more you can spread the word, the more you can donate, even a dollar, it will help us.

It will help them.

I wanted to wait until I had spoken to Harry to write this update.

The news is true. Gage did go home to his mother overnight. It was about 2 AM, but nobody was focused on the clock at the time.

We all knew it was a possibility, but we had been holding out hope until the end.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words, and your genuine kindhearted curiosity.

This fundraiser is evermore important now, though, as we pull together every bit of strength that we can, and push forward to make the lives of the family members that are still grieving, and whose grief has begun again.

Thank you so much for what you have done already, but we have a long way to go before we reach our goal. Let's keep an eye on that target, and get there quickly!

I'm heading to go see Harry tonight in just a bit. Last night, when I first showed this to him, we had just crested $10,000. Can we get this to $17,000 before I see him tonight?

It's up to you to make this happen, and you are doing an amazing job!

I know you all want updates on the baby, but out of respect for the family we have decided to let that rest for now. I hope you understand.

If you would like to continue to show support, please consider printing this flyer off and posting it on your local bulletin boards.
