Love for Lia

Donation protected
I have set up this fund to try to raise some money to help a very special Bedford family hit by tragedy after tragedy and who yet; despite the circumstances surrounding them, and against all the odds, continue to fight this journey with love, positivity, dignity and a sense of togetherness. With their permission, and as hard as it is has been for them to read, I'd like to share their story as there is no question that help from our community will be beyond invaluable, life changing even - in every sense of the word. So I hope that you think you can help in some small, but significant way.

After losing his mum on New Years Eve, 2014 to cancer, Dean, 25, learnt just 8 weeks later, that his partner of six years and mother to their children, aged 2, 4 and step daughter aged 9, had an aggressive form of terminal lung cancer. Je-Anne is only 26. As a non smoker, her diagnosis leaves her confused and disappointed beyond belief. The cancer has a special mutation and has spread to her bones, making the usual daily routines that we all take for granted, often impossible to do. Je-Anne is blessed with real strength and determination, and shows great courage and spirit, being both mummy and partner to her family, with their future together - how ever long that may be - at the forefront of her mind.

Sadly, exactly a week after Je-Anne was diagnosed, Lia, their eldest daughter was also diagnosed with Leukemia. She had been experiencing pain in her feet but had been reassured that it was just tissue damage. When the pain didn't go, mum insisted that she was tested further and a blood test confirmed their worst fears.  Lia is in the throws of her own chemo treatment but the prognosis is good, and eventually, it's hoped she will make a full recovery. The bitter sweet sorry of this of course, is the harsh reality that mum may not be here to see that happen.

Unlike mum, Lia is not a British National, and Dean, her step dad is taking the necessary steps to become her legal guardian as quickly as possible, so that she can remain here with her sisters, and the only father she has ever known. Dean works long hours and is trying desperately hard to save up enough money to make this a reality. I'd like to think that we can raise a minimum of £900 to help cover some of the costs for this family (It costs in excess of £1500 in total) and to make life just that little bit easier for them in the times ahead, and if together we smash the target, then even better...this family deserve something to look forward to.

Thank you to The Sharnbrook Hotel, O'Hair Kempston, The Higgins Pantry, AB Fruits, Pizzeria Santaniello's and Valerio's who kick started this campain and pledged their support. And thank you for yours.
