Loupy D 's Going Overseas Fund

Hi, my name is Lawrence Dotson, aka Loupy D. I am a journalist, filmmaker and blogger at Loupy D in the 21st Century . Last year while working towards my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, I took a field study position at the Freeman Black Panther Research Center on Crenshaw Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. My field study was researching the history of the Crenshaw community for visitors of the center. I also volunteered to help organize two community projects: a free breakfast program to feed children on the weekend, and a transportation program that provided a free charter bus to take families to Southland prisons to visit their loved ones.

The Center is also the production office for the documentary series 41st & Central: The Untold Story Of The L.A. Panthers. The film won the Audience Favorite Award for a Documentary at the Pan African Film Festival in 2010. It has been screened on campus colleges in Southern California, Fuller Theological Seminary, and at conferences in Northern California.

The filmmaker Gregory Everett, who happens to be the Center Director, was recently invited to come screen the film in Stockholm, Sweden and Berlin, Germany next month.

And this is where I need your help. I’ve been asked to accompany Greg on his weeklong trip to Europe. I said I would if I had the money. I’ve been earning extra money by Door Dashing and Grub Hubbing and tutoring, but with winter break upon us, my time to put in extra work is limited because I’ll have my two young sons for the next two weeks.

I’m putting myself out here to ask my friends and family and followers for help, but with such short notice (I travel on January 10th) about the trip I thought that I would give this a shot. The money will be used for travel expenses, food and winter clothing. I hate to ask for something without giving in return, so I offer a reward system that will dedicate my time for your assistance.

You can learn more about the film, the Freeman Research Center and see a timeline of the events leading to the rise and fall of the L.A. Black Panther Party by clicking the link here . You would be helping me greatly by providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to document the reactions and feelings of people from two European societies toward a group of black Americans who promoted self defense and self determination, and how their effort to fight oppression was treated as a threat to American security.
