Imagine a world where nobody was afraid to discuss mental illness; where people of all ages could tell their truth without fear of being judged or ridiculed; where everyone could seek the help they needed, when they needed it. Imagine if each and every one knew how to talk to those showing signs of mental illness and made them feel safe and supported.
Unfortunately though, 70% of young people feel dismissed when they first tell someone they are struggling with their mental health.
LOSE YOUR MIND is a startup social enterprise that uses fully immersive, 360-degree video to connect you emotionally to the experience of a student suffering a severe mental illness (psychosis) by making you feel confused, afraid and disconnected. We aim to take you outside your comfort zone and have you view the world from the student’s perspective. We want to connect you with the emotion, the fear, the disconnection, the confusion and the isolation and embrace those who are suffering with empathy and compassion and create a safe space for communication. Participation in the VR simulation and active mental health literacy workshops aims to reduce the stigma of mental illness and mental health culture meaning young people are more likely to feel safe, open up, tell their truth and be guided toward the help they need.
Funding LOSE YOUR MIND will allow a wider audience to participate in the VR simulation by purchasing a new bluetooth-enabled VR system and creating new workshop and VR content.
