Local father facing deportation

$23,244 of $20,000 goal

Created June 12, 2017
Our local community member, Juan De La Cruz, has been told that he will be deported on July 6th, 2017. When he went to his annual ICE check-in, he was informed that he was being deported immediately.  The authorities reconsidered and are allowing him 30 days to get his affairs in order because of his financial responsibilities and young children. Juan and his family don’t have much time.  They need help hiring lawyers to counsel them and plead his case to the immigration authorities.

Many of you know Juan, his US-born wife Kirsten (of 8 years), their 2 US-born children (8 & 5), and 4 step-children (19, 18, 16, 13). Together, Juan and Kirsten own a house and a small farm called the De La Cruz Farm. The community enjoys fresh eggs, free range chicken meat, and lamb. Many people stop in at the solar farm in Vergennes to see their lambs.  Juan has a work authorization card and he has a full-time job. He has been employed at local businesses for the last 11 years.  Juan’s salary supplies their primary income and they cannot make ends meet without him.

Your donation will give this family a chance to stay together for they don’t have much time. Juan's hearing is less than 3 weeks away.

Thank you all for your generous donations. We reached the $20,000 goal in 26 days because we live in a community where our neighbors care about each other and help whenever there is a need. The almost 300 donations came in all sizes and from some very kind folks we have never met. It has been an overwhelming and inspiring experience.
The De La Cruz family has a few more obstacles to overcome. We will keep you informed about their progress.
Should anyone else like to make a donation, please send it directly to Kirsten & Juan, or to me.
Thank you again for your generosity, encouragement, and kindness to Juan, Kirsten, and their family.

Please help us achieve our goal. We are so close. If fourteen people give $50 or twenty-eight give $25, we'd reach the $20,000 that the attorney predicted the De La Cruz family would incur in legal expenses.

There is good news for the De La Cruz family on this July 4th. The Asylum Officer agreed that Juan has a need for asylum. He will be able to go before a judge in Boston to plead his case.
Thank you all for your donations and support so that Juan and Kirsten could hire an experienced attorney. Together they have more hurdles to jump but the asylum meeting outcome is good news.
Happy Independence Day!

Let's wish Juan good luck today as he and his attorney meet with an Asylum officer (the attorney is charging $3,000 for just this meeting).
The De La Cruz family bills are accruing so please continue to spread the word.
We hope that Juan has success today and he can remain in the U.S. with his family.
