LMU's Campaign to #AxTheTax
Donation protected
Hey there!
We are two LMU students campaigning for the removal of the tax on female hygiene products. These products are considered "luxury items," while products like chips, are not. Female hygiene products are necessary to the health and well being of all women, and should be treated as such.
As students of a Rhetoric of Social Movements class, we hope to raise awareness as well as help combat the effect this tax has on women in the U.S. While there are existing petitions that aim to combat the tampon tax (listed below), we hope to do our part by raising money that will go towards the purchase of female hygiene products. All products will be donated to the Downtown Women's Center in Los Angeles, which provides homeless women with housing, health services, and an opportunity for success. 100% of proceeds will go towards the purchase of these products.
Additionally, please consider signing the below petitions, which recognize the need to remove the tampon tax both federally, and state-level in California (If you are from another state that taxes female hygiene products, there is more likely than not an existing state-wide petition that you can sign).
Federal: https://www.change.org/p/u-s-state-legislators-stop-taxing-our-periods-period
California: https://www.change.org/p/jerry-brown-stop-the-tampon-tax-in-california
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Emily and Maddy
