Help Louisiana State League Staff

Donation protected
The National League of Cities and state municipal leagues are asking for your help in supporting our  colleagues at the Louisiana Municipal Association.

Last weekend, the state of Louisiana, had a tropical depression-like weather system that developed over the Baton Rouge area and rainfall somewhere between 20-24 inches of rain fell during approximately 48-72 hour period.  Intense flooding occurred in 4 parishes surrounding Baton Rouge almost immediately and even today, Tuesday, the backwater flooding is affecting communities southward as the waterways lead to Lakes Maurepas and Ponchartrain, eventually to the Gulf of Mexico.

Approximately 20% of the Louisiana Municipal Association employees have lost their homes due to flood waters.  A number of league staff are unable to work because although their homes were dry, they are surrounded by floodwaters and cannot get to or from their homes.  Also, if they were spared, many have family members who were not.

The other 48 state municipal leagues and National League of Cities are setting up a fund to help league employees who have suffered loss of materials in their homes and need help getting back to their day-to-day lives.  The deadline to donate is Friday, August 26.

The funds raised here will be given directly to the Louisiana Municipal Association through the National League of Cities. The state municipal leagues and NLC are a family. Please consider donating what you're able to help our colleagues in Louisiana.
