Pilar: Little Explorer, Big World
Since my daughter Pilar was born three years ago, I became a different human being. It's been a dream of mine to develop a series of books that will inspire and educate children, with a special emphasis on empowering young girls to dream big, and to understand they should aim for the stars to pursue their goals. As a Dad, my mission is to support Pilar fully and to make sure she develops the skills and self-esteem needed to be herself when she grows up so she can overcome society’s hurdles. With your help, this book series could become a reality, allowing me to inspire children and to help parents around the world.
I am requesting donations to develop a young character, inspired by my family life, for the first book in a series. The book will portray educational adventures around the world, and will be written to help children, with the support of their parents and guardians, learn about many concepts such as bullying, discrimination, immigration, climate change, cultural diversity, healthy diet, etc. My book will be bilingual (English/Spanish), and will include wonderful illustrations to accompany fun and educational stories.
The book will be 8”x10” (21 x 26cm), printed on white 50# uncoated paper, 75 GSM, softcover.
I am fortunate to have teamed up with Argentinian illustrator Walter Carzon, to bring to life what we believe will be a great series for our children and grandchildren.
The expenses I am seeking funding for include: layout and design, character development, copyediting, publication, marketing, and printing. The book will be self-published, and will be available on Amazon, iTunes etc.
With your support, we can. This project will be developed working at nights, in our free time. As a National Geographic Creative photographer, I am constantly traveling to remote places of the world, teaching and inspiring people. I want to thank each of you for your encouragement to develop this project.
This book will be suitable for ages three to seven years old, but it should be meaningful for anyone interested in international adventures and thoughtful lessons. I am positive this book will bring a smile to all, whether to it’s readers or young listeners.
As I always say, we should never stop dreaming... I have spent my career trying to empower people to pursue their creative dreams and completing this idea reinforces that approach. I am happy to answer your questions about the project, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If the proposed funding level is surpassed, the additional money will be used to produce the second book of the series which focuses on children (or a child) living in Colombia.
We plan to provide copies of books to Colombian children living in remote areas as I travel around working on different projects.
Once again, I sincerely thank you for your support towards this book project, and also for possibly sharing it with others who might be interested.

After months of the hard work of our team, we are extremely close to launching our first bilingual book with The Adventures of Pili. If you want to help us inspire girls to aspire, please donate or share this project with family, friends, and colleagues.
After a few weeks of silence, I must confess we are even more excited than before about the first upcoming book. Great ideas are pouring in, and people from all over the world are supporting in many unique ways: We have received donations; many people are sharing ideas and introducing us to people who could be interested in supporting the idea; and above all, our project is received with a huge smile where ever we presented.
The team continues to work hard. Some new friends have decided to join our team efforts, and we expect to see bilingual English editions, combined with Spanish, Mandarin and Hindu. The process of creating the children book series from scratch as time consuming as beautiful. It is only being possible thanks to everyone's support out there. Thanks for sharing our project with family and friends!
