Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR)
Hi!
My name is Lisa Young and I am from Vancouver, Canada. Currently, I teach at an afterschool program to Elementary students in the rural area of South Korea.
Since October, I have joined a non-profit organization called
Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR).
TNKR is an amazing, all-volunteer based organization that helps connects North Korean refugees with volunteer English tutors. English is an extremely important language, especially to the North Korean refugees, because it can lead to better employment opportunities. By learning English, refugees can be able to speak openly about their stories and experiences living in North Korea.
Check here to visit the TNKR program website.

For the next three months, I will be volunteering to teach English to one North Korean refugee, for 2-3 times a month on the weekends.
However, I need your help! It takes me about 3 hours to travel one-way from Jeonju to Seoul, which means that it is a 6 hour commute roundtrip. This accumulates to approximately $80 a month.
50% of the proceeds raised will be used to cover my travel expenses.
Meanwhile, the remaining 50% of the proceeds will go directly to TNKR.
Even the smallest donation will make my day!
If you cannot donate, please spread the message to family and friends!
Thank you so much in advance!

Update: Recently, I met up with my North Korean refugee for our first session (November 7, 2015), and I have never met any individual who shows such dedication, commitment, and such passion in learning English. It is such a rewarding experience to be able to help others and be able to make a difference in their lives.
