Lindsay's Compartment Syndrome

Donation protected
Lindsay is a 14 year old girl from New Jersey who suffers from the painful condition of Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome (CECS).

Lindsay, like many young girls, had dreams of competing for Team USA as an Olympic gymnast.  She has spent the past nine years training 4-6 hours a day, six days per week dedicated to the sport she loves, gymnastics.  Unfortunately, over the past two years, due to her CECS, Lindsay has had such severe and debilitating leg pain that she cannot sit, stand, or even walk without feeling terrible pain.  At this time, she is not able to even think about running or jumping and gymnastics is impossible.

Compartment Syndrome is when pressure inside the muscle compartments of the legs elevates and does not reduce, causing severe pain and damage to the blood vessels, muscle fibers, and nerves of the legs.

Over the past two years, Lindsay has endured multiple painful tests, therapies and surgeries on both of her legs. She has had no relief of pain or symptoms with any traditional and even holistic treatment methods. Needless to say, a lot of time has been spent and much of our financial resources have been exhausted in order to find a cure.  For Lindsay, sitting to complete schoolwork is painful and difficult and no end to her pain is in sight.

However, a possible cure/procedure has been identified that might work for her. Through research, a physician has been found in Casper, Wyoming, Dr. Joseph McGinley, who specializes in the treatment of CECS. He uses Botox while guided under a specialized CT scan to relax the muscles around the blood vessels that supply to the compartments in the legs and therefore reduce the pain. Dr. McGinley is the only physician in the world to perform this technique. He reports an 85% success rate with his patients, with an increase in the percentage of success after two to three treatments.

The diagnosis and treatment provided by Dr. McGinley is unfortunately NOT covered by medical insurance. The success of the treatment is highest with two to three followups of Botox treatment. Expenses also include flying and staying in Wyoming for the medical treatments.

At this point, Lindsay would love to dream of returning to gymnastics and competing at the college level. But in reality, her true goals are to simply walk, go down the stairs, or even sit and study without pain. The hope of this Go Fund Me page is to help raise the funds for the medical and necessary travel expenses to allow Lindsay to have this specialized treatment for her compartment syndrome. This treatment is her last hope for a return to a pain free normal life.

Any money donated will go to help pay for medical expenses at Casper Medical Imaging and to travel to Wyoming to help Lindsay. We appreciate your interest in Lindsay's story and any amount you can possibly give is extremely helpful and we are forever grateful.
