Israelle (Izzy) Mattocks is a nine year old rock star battling Stage IV Relapsed Neuroblastoma. She was originally diagnosed in December of 2011, at just three years old.
On July 27, 2017, the Mattocks family received the devastating news that Izzy's cancer has now returned for the 4th time. There is no cure for Stage IV Relapsed Neuroblastoma. The five year survival rate is less than 1%.
Each year the Mattocks family hits their out of pocket maximum for Izzy of $8,000. This year will be no different.
Izzy's mother, Molly, devotes her life to caring for others. She runs the Community Cupboard of Lawrence, a food pantry on the east side of Indianapolis. She will be taking a leave of absence to care for Izzy. This, in addition to unpaid time she has already taken, will result in a loss of income of approximately $4,000.
For four weeks Izzy and Molly will be staying close to the Proton Radiation Center, just outside Cincinnati. The closest Ronald McDonald House (at $25 per night) is 30 minutes away. To avoid the drive and have the privacy that will help them during this already vulnerable experience, they will be staying at a local hotel which offers a hospital discount of $69 per night. With taxes this expense will total around $1,200.
Needless to say, they will incur many other expenses during this time including gas and meals. And beyond that, the medical bills are truly endless. My hope is that we can make it to where the Mattocks family doesn't have to worry for one second about these costs and can focus on living LIFE with Izzy.
