Sam was rescued from horrific conditions from the long Island reptile museum when authorities closed it down and confinscated the remaining living reptiles.
He suffered terribly with inadequate heat and a horrible diet. He was stuck indoors in a very small concrete pen for 10 years.
He was brought to me In Florida for rehabilitation.
We had a ton of medical conditions to deal with right away most notably, a large bulge in his leg. He had a surgery to remove a large abscess that was festering for years.
In the years that followed he has gotten sick with various conditions and been cared for with great success.
Sam is approximately 40 years old. Tortoises of this species can live well over 150 years.
Sam's favorite food is cactus berries and carrots as a treat. He has never met a stranger! To know him is to love him.
Sam has done well for years However, Recently he has developed a lump at the base of his throat causing him to spit up food .
He has had testing that only showed a systemic infection and inflammation.
We have exhausted all of our resources for the current vet bills and testing.
He needs additional testing to diagnose the cause of the swelling. This testing must be done by a specialist and is very expensive.
We have come so far for this big boy! wont you help in the fight to give him the life he deserves? no amount is to small it all ads up! please donate to save Sammy.
thank you!
