Fight to defend our Constitution.

This appeal to raise funds for a legal challenge against the unconstitutional VP appointment originally started as a petition but drew the attention of other like-minded individuals and led to the constitution of the Democracy Watch Gambia (DWG). This is a civil society organisation which shall primarily focus on issues relating to Constitutional breaches.

On the issue of the VP, the government has backed down and attempted to amended sections 62 and 70 to lift the 65 years maximum age restrictions albeit controvertially and unconstitutionally (the said amendments were not gazetted before being presented as required by sections 101 and 226 of the Constitution). This being the case the issue of Fatoumatta Tambajang's unconstitutional VP appointment will continue to be raised with the government.

The DWG as a pro democracy entity, is here to stay.

Our primary purpose of existence shall be to challenge the government on any excesses or breaches with regards to the Constitution. We aim to carry out the aforementioned voluntary civic task through direct engagement and correspondence with the government and inevitably through legal challenges at the courts which as we all know does not come cheap. This is where the importance of your benevolence come into play. Every penny and cent counts.

For the above reason, it is important to keep this appeal for donations to support this and any future legal battles going. We will be taking this government and successive ones to task each time there is a Constitutional breach and we will need the help of every single one of you out there in order to succeed in that.

Remember, unless our laws are respected by those in positions of power, another dictatorship cannot be ruled out altogether. We must not stand idly by for such to happen. And we (DWG) won't; we count on you to stand by us to preserve our democracy and the rule of Law.
