Support Scott's fight & Help his family! #ALS

Donation protected
My husband Scott has been battling ALS (Amlyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or "Lou Gehrig's Disease") for over 2 years now.  ALS is a deadly neurogenerative muscular disease.  Neurons die and cause the muscles to stop working and eventually it kills it's victim.  There is NO cure. The average lifespan is 2-5 years.

Scott is a wonderful husband of 17 years and the father of 3 children ages 20, 11 & 10.  He was a proud, private hardworking man. He is generous and was always the first to help out a person in need. He worked as a mechanical /electrical engineer for years.  He was a talented woodworker and a great all around handyman.  This diagnosis turned our once normal, good lives upside down in an instant.  The medical bills along with the expenses this disease brings are terrifying.  He is now on a ventilator almost 24 hrs a day.  The mask he uses daily costs an unbelievable $300 each and needs to be replaced p every 2-3 weeks. He cannot sit up, stand, walk, write, perform basic activities we take for granted such as showering, toileting, shaving, cooking, dressing or sitting up.  I am his caregiver.
Our family is devastated financially and emotionally.  I too am disabled as an OB Labor & Delivery RN for several years due to widespred chronic pain from severe fibromyalgia and several spinal issues. I now am his 24 hr caregiver and mom to our young kids alone.  The stress this disease carries not only to it's victims but their loved ones as well is hard to imagine unless you have experienced it first hand. You are grieving a loss of something your person w/ALS has or had every day.  Grieving a loved one that is still here is unbearable. The effects on our children are hard to imagine.

The money I am raising if you choose to donate will help get our bathroom redone to be ADA compliant and make toileting and showering safer.  We need to hire people for this job and are having a hard time findind anyone we can afford. Scott and I did all the remodeling before ourselves.  It will also help with medical bills, groceries and regulare expenses.

Please be assured that every dollar donated will go directly to our family to make our home safer and wheelchair accessible and will improve the quality of life for a wonderful man.

Thank you & God bless,

Julie Usher
