Leslie's "Penguin Chemo Cap" Fund

$3,800 of $2,000 goal

Raised by 32 people in 15 months
Created September 12, 2017

In July 2017 Leslie thought something felt wrong in her body, and after numerous tests, doctors discovered a tumor in her breast. The treatment is aggressive: a double-mastectomy in September followed by radiation and chemotherapy.

Leslie describes herself on Facebook as a "Mommy... Sister... Daughter... Auntie... Friend. Hard at work girly-girl .....sprinkled with love!!!!!!!"

As a single mom to her 8-year-old son, it is imperative that Leslie be able to look and feel as normal as possible. As her sister (no-longer-in-law) I can attest to her dedication to reducing any negative impact her surgery and recovery may have on her son.

How can you help? Thank you for asking, friend!!!! While prayers and support are so very welcomed, what we are asking for in this Go-Fund-Leslie is a Penguin Cold Cap!

What's a Penguin Cold Cap? Cold Cap Therapy is a non-invasive technique for minimizing hair loss and swelling after chemotherapy. With a Penguin Cold Cap Leslie has a chance of keeping her beautiful hair and reducing the trauma on her son and by looking more like her healthy self while undergoing treatment.

Leslie will undergo surgery in the third week in September and start chemotherapy directly after. The Penguin Cold Cap costs $450 per month and it's expected she will need it for three months. There is also a $500 deposit, so we are asking for $2000.00 to cover the costs of the Cold Cap.

Thank you for your prayers, love, support, and donations. Much love, friends!

We are so grateful for everyone who has donated to Leslie's Penguin Chemo Cap fund and want to update you on her process. For those who are just joining us, Leslie is a superstar about to embark on a journey to save her life.

She's mommy to an outrageously wonderful third-grader, a Mental Health and Social Worker on Skid Row, a daughter, sister, and friend to everyone she meets. In July she got the diagnosis that no one wants to hear, and on the 18th of September she had a double mastectomy. Leslie will be undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, followed by reconstructive surgery in April 2018.

The next six months will be a new challenge and there will be many ways Leslie and Dillon would benefit from their community.

Leslie's Penguin Chemo Cap Fund was started through Go Fund Me to reduce the physical impact the diagnosis would have on Dillon and Leslie. For the next stage of their journey, a Meal Train was created to give friends and family the opportunity to give their time, meals, and love while their little family goes through this experience.

If you'd like to donate time or meals, please go to Leslie and Dillon's Meal Train at:

To reduce confusion and complication, rather than open a second donation location at the Meal Train we will be leaving the Penguin Chemo Cap fund open, and all donations made in excess of the amount needed for the Penguin Chemo Cap will go directly to Leslie and Dillon.

With so much love from our family to yours, and may you be blessed with happiness and health.
