This weekend, the Camp Fire ripped through Northern California, decimating the town of Paradise. One of the Romance community's own, Julie Anne Long, was forced to evacuate her home on moments' notice. She made it out of Paradise with her family, her 14 year old cat, her laptop, paper files, and pretty much the clothes on her back. Her home, and all that was in it, burned to the ground. Julie lost everything -- all her books, her clothes, furniture, cookware, flatware, guitars. Her RITA award.

From Julie's FaceBook last Thursday:

"Got out safely with my sister's family and our pets; we're in a hotel. Drove through flames; this was taken through my windshield. Took about an hour or more to inch out of town. The terror of that journey hard to describe. The town is devastated—hospital, high school, Kmart, Walgreens, most of downtown have burned so far, from what I hear. It seems unlikely my house will survive, but I am praying, and if you wouldn't mind praying, too, for all the families and animals and first responders and fireman, I know it helps. Thank you so much! Things like this crystallize in a moment what really matters. Hug your loved ones close. xoxo"

If you'd like to help Julie, please consider contributing to this gofundme campaign. All net proceeds collected (for full transparency, this means the entire amount collected after GoFundMe deducts its fees and commission) will be sent directly to Julie Anne Long.

And, if you cannot contribute, please send kind thoughts Julie's way -- there has been a huge outpouring of emotional support, which is truly helping her feel connected in this very troubling time. Her email is JulieAnneLongcampfire@gmail.com.

Sending thanks to the heart of the Romance community.

From Julie vias FB:

Residents were finally allowed back into town to sift through the remains of houses yesterday. Here's my 14-year-old nephew (he likes to keep his hair long) with one of the two or three things they found at my sister's house. I opted not to make the three and a half hour trip from the Bay Area (where I'm still staying with my friend and her family) to sift and search. My house is apparently even worse than theirs; nothing left but ashes. Hoping to rise from those dramatically in 2019. ;)

Julie is staying with friends in the Bay Area and beginning to work on where she and her family will go next. It's been hard for her to do many basic things--the Camp Fire destroyed all of her financial records as well as all of her things. That said, she's happy to be alive and is excited about figuring out what comes next.

from Julie:

I hope you and yours had a warm, joyous, bounteous, safe Thanksgiving surrounded by all the things you love. Sylvie and I are for the moment staying with an old friend and her lively family in her beautiful house in the Bay Area, where a rainstorm has finally washed the skies clean of smoke and the sky is a new, stunning blue. (My sister and her family needed to stay in a city closer to my brother-in-law's workplace.) For so many reasons, and thanks to you to all of you and your love and generosity, every day of my life from now on will be Thanksgiving. And I can never thank you enough. Looking forward to a new home in the new year, if not sooner, hopefully. I'll work on that. One moment at a time. All moments are good and no blessings are small, from now on, forever and ever. Lots of love from me to you and yours....xoxo julie
