I have been battlingn an inner ear disease for 17 years now, Meniere's Disease.  For some, the symtoms are controllable most of time.  For me, not so much.  Due to the disease, I have lost pretty much all my hearing in my right ear.  I can live and do live with that.  I have learned to position myself so my left ear faces the conversation.  In noisy situations, nothing really helps.  So I avoid them as much as I can.

About three months ago, I lost my hearing in my left ear.   My ears are like a weather vane with Meniere's.  When the weather/pressure changes, my ears close completely up.  I recently moved here to Florida and this began my journey with complete hearing loss.  I have been to the doctor, urgent care, ER, and my ENT over 25 times in the last 3 months trying to gain some of my hearing back.

I am a single mom on a limited budget on top of it, so the medical bill for the ER, well I just don't open them.  I can't...I can never catch my breath anyway, something is always coming up.

The past three months has been trying different treatments to help me gain my hearing in my left ear.  I have surgery this Friday, but my ENT says there is a good chance it won't help, or it could make my hearing worse (I don't know how it could get much worse actually).  At best, I get about 20% of my hearing back, which to me is better than nothing. My son wonders why I am doing the surgery than?  Well, it is like the ENT said, I have nothing to lose and maybe something to gain.

In the end, I have to get hearing aids so that I will be able to hear.  This I knew, but I also know how expensive they are and that it is not something I can afford.  Because of my hearing issues, I am looking at $6500 for a pair of hearing aids that will give me my hearing back.  Even with the surgery, I will still need them.   I want to be able to talk with my son, I want and have to be able to drive to take him to and from school, go to the store, the normal things a mom does.

I need them, but I will do without them if necessary.  All I can do is move forward and hope for the best.  At this point, I am pretty much unable to hear.  I am just hoping and praying for a miracle, the miracle of being able to hear again.  To at least have some semblance of a normal life.   It will not be something I take for granted.

Thank you
