Laurie's Cancer Fund

$8,630 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 81 people in 25 months
Our dear friend Laurie , a mental health nurse and addiction specialist, retired in January after a 45 year career serving the CNY community.  Just as she was settling into her well-deserved retirement, health issues emerged.  Sadly, she was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer of the parotid gland.  Her doctor characterized it as a "mean tumor," and has recommended an intense and immediate course of treatment.

This plan requires multiple trips from Syracuse to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for head and neck surgery and follow-up, radiation, and potentially chemotherapy.  Costs associated with travel and treatment have quickly mounted.  We are looking for donations to offset these costs so that she can continue this lifesaving treatment.

Laurie has worked her entire life taking care of others, touching so many lives with her warmth and generosity.  Let us respond in kind by contributing in the most useful way possible.  With our help she can be on the road to recovery and get back to the business of enjoying her retirement.  Any amount helps.  We are very grateful for any assistance you can offer.

We have almost met Laurie's Go Fund Me goal. Your generosity and support brings her to tears whenever we read over the list of supporters and messages together.
Although Laurie set out to send personal messages to everyone, it became apparent that the task was a bit too overwhelming. Please know she sends many thanks

Laurie will be starting radiation therapy and chemo in the next few weeks We have been going to many doctor appointments to get ready for treatment. Who knew it would take so much planning. Her surgery site is healing well but she still has some facial lagging that we hope will resolve in the next 6 months. We found out that radiation treatments will be 5 days a week for 7-8 weeks. We have not meet with the chemo physician yet so do not know what that will include. Will let you know more as we get the plan.

I went through grade school with Laurie. We were not particularly great friends but I do remember her well and her Dad was my Dr. right up through 1975. My thoughts and prayers are with her. God bless you.
