Lauriann Bartell support fund

$29,364 of $40,000 goal

Raised by 228 people in 42 months
For the past 3 years Lauriann has been cared for at home by her husband and kids. Mike has been unable to work due to caring for his sweet wife 24-7. He also has to care for his children. The older kids have been able to help out financially and physically but with the older 2 married and out of the home there are a lot of burdens placed upon Mike and the kids.  They are worried about losing their home and keeping up with every day expenses. We are increasing the total to help with that. If you would like to know the whole story continue reading on and check the updates. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!

Over 3 years ago on August 30th Lauriann went to the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. The doctors cauterized it but due to it's proximity to an artery she lost a lot of blood. They rushed her to emergency surgery to stop the bleeding but during that time she lost oxygen to her brain. This caused an unknown amount of brain damage and left her in a coma.  Mike her faithful husband rarely leaves her side. They have 6 beautiful children.

As you can imagine medical costs continue to accumulate and so this is a way to help ease the financial burden placed upon their family.
Lauriann is an amazing person filled with love and kindness toward all.
Any assistance, prayers, and shares are so appreciated. Even if you are unable to donate at this time please share! Thank you for your generosity.

Several people have asked for a more detailed update on Lauriann & her family. Here are more details that will hopefully inform you the best I can about the state of Lauriann's condition & the family's circumstances. We also feel the importance of helping everyone understand where their generous funds are/will be going & why the need for financial assistance is still a very real need.

Lauriann was sent home from the hospital on Oct. 7. Her husband & 6 children have chosen to care for her in their own home now. They feel having their wife & mother in her own home & environment will give her the best opportunity at a chance of survival & healing from this coma. She has shown a definite peace in her countenance being in her own home as opposed to a hospital room.

Lauriann is still very much in a coma, or in her case better known as a "persistent vegetative state". In this state, one is awake but does not exhibit awareness of their surroundings. (Although there are times it seems and feels as though she's very aware but simply can't communicate it.)

In the hospital, she made the "necessary" progress that wouldn't allow her to receive care there any longer. (Blood levels & vitals all normal, no more fever, procedures & incisions from surgery healing well, off of the ventilator breathing well on her own & heart rate stable). At this point insurance discontinued to financially assist her. A care center is not covered by insurance at this step in the recovery process & would cost an exorbitant amount of money.

Insurance will not kick in again until she has met particular progress or criteria. Either, she needs to become capable of following basic commands coherently & consistently; for example, when asked "yes or no" questions, she can coherently answer by blinking, raising eyebrows or squeezing fingers, etc., which she cannot. OR, she must spend the next 26 months in care outside of a hospital, without coming out of her coma, having made no significant progress. Only at that time may she be moved into a care facility where insurance will start to financially assist her again. That wouldn't be until Dec. 2017.

At this point, aside from the already accumulated medical bills, there is still a lot of care & medical supplies Lauriann must have that will require financial assistance that insurance will not pay for. Even with State assistance, there is only so much that is approved for coverage.

With the money that has currently been donated, a portion of the accumulated bills have started to be able to be paid. What a blessing this has been! The Lord truly works His miracles in various ways. A lot of you have been a big part of these miracles for the Bartell family.

Your stewardship, compassion, empathy & spirit of giving is so appreciated. More than will ever be able to be expressed.

THANK YOU for your generosity & willingness to help this family in need. Your acts of service do not go unnoticed.

We ask sincerely if all of you would please continue to "Share" this post as much as you feel comfortable. I will continue to keep an update going periodically as needed also.

Thank you so much again,
Aloni

Lauri is currently being cared for at home now. She is opening her eyes some and moving her head to both sides. She still has a trache in and needs 24 hour care. Mike and the kids are taking such good care of her. The insurance company has limited what they are paying for so any donations are a blessing!

Chump change? What about the stars who scroll right by all the pain and suffering of their fans? She is bombarded by requests for help daily and I bet we don’t know an ounce of the good she does.

Did you donate Sandra? This is not the place to voice your opinion, and truthfully, your opinion does not matter. I wish this family peace, and wellness in their difficult time. And apologize for rude and inconsiderate people. Bless you and your family.
