Launching White Crane Dance Theatre

During the journey of my MFA in Choreography program, my mother encountered, not one, but two strokes that almost met her demise. These events deeply affected me in ways unimaginable. The emotional, physical, and psychological stress my mother experienced seeped into my empathic self. She was in a situation where ordinary tasks such as walking, swallowing, holding a pen, writing her name, putting her sock/shoe/clothing on…. needed to be learned, not again, but anew. The struggle, distress, and vulnerability she endured to complete any mundane task was painful to perceive. For instance, she was able to hold a fork in to enjoy a meal, for seventy plus years and while in the hospital finding myself on the other end of this question through a flood of tears in her eyes in an angry tone, “WHY doesn’t my hand work anymore?” hit the core of my being.
Change is challenge and illness is heartbreaking. Witnessing my mother's struggle unlocked what is already in me, the desire to create movement from the universe within and build curative environments for all to experience; the performers and audience members.
I am launching my new professional dance company, White Crane Dance Theatre with my thesis event and am on the path to joining a non-profit umbrella. Our first show is April 6th and 7th at the Electric Lodge titled, Mirroring the Inside, in Venice, CA. Everything has come out of my own pocket, and the bills are escalating (theater rental, dancers, designers, costumes, technical components, projector/screen, rentals, crew, domains, website, and so much more). A dear friend suggested I start this page while I continue with the process of joining the umbrella. Any amount, and most importantly sending positive good vibes towards this journey will be most sincerely and graciously appreciated by all of us.

White Crane Dance Theatre's first performance is an exploration of chi, that is cultivated through Tai Chi and Qi Gong, to tap into universal harmony and transform into choreography that ultimately produces a restorative environment. One that the aging body of a professional dancer can still perform, one that a viewer (like my mother) given any challenges they may have experienced is able to be in an environment that exudes harmony.
Starting a dance company has always been a dream of mine, but only until I have become clear with, why, I left the dream on idle. The why is to share with the world the importance of taking care of ourselves (inside out) and excavate the mountains of diamonds within our beings to share and direct life for the greater good. I see White Crane Dance Theatre's future living up to the symbology embedded in the name: happiness, eternal youth, longevity, good fortune, wisdom, vigilence, discipline, grace, travel and sharing community well-being with others for the greater good.
Mission - To inspire restorative living by paving ways of moving from the inside out.
Vision - Embracing humanity, world peace, and harmony through multimedia events.

Eventually, White Crane Dance Theatre will evolve into creating a wellness center where restorative workshops will be available for the public to emphasize the importance of taking care of yourself and others.
