Lansing Hero: Dennis Rodeman
Firefighter Rodeman, a seven-year veteran of LFD, was also a veteran of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion of the 24th Marine Regiment, United States Marine Corps. He served his country with great pride, bravery and ability, having survived a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq, one of the most dangerous places in the world. It is beyond comprehension that this American hero lost his life on the streets of Lansing while collecting charitable contributions for children afflicted by muscular dystrophy.
May the memory of Lansing Fire Fighter and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Dennis Rodeman – a hero twice over – be forever etched in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The City of Lansing, Lansing Fire Department and IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) Local 421 have joined together to raise funds for the family of firefighter Rodeman. To do so, we formed this GoFundMe page. All of the funds collected will be deposited into a dedicated bank account set up by IAFF Local 421 for Rodeman's family.

I would like to thank you all for your kindness, support and generosity throughout this difficult time. I appreciate all the caring words and prayers that I have received from everyone. It gives me great pleasure knowing that my family and I are part of such a loving community, not just here in Lansing, but across the state and the country. This wound that we carry in our hearts may not heal for a very long time, but we have trust that God would never give us a challenge in life that He did not think we could handle. Thank you again for all that you have done to support myself and my family and to honor Dennis. I will treasure it always.
Whomever created this account really should raise the goal. Between funeral expenses, a house payment on a home they just bought together and a baby on the way... The costs will far exceed $50,000. It would be amazing to be able to see her pay her house off if she wanted to, to help alleviate a monthly expense that they expected to pay with 2 monthly incomes. Now there is only 1.
I agree that the goal should be raised even higher than 100,000. I was the mother of a 7 year old when my husband died unexpectedly. His life insurance policy exceeded 100,000 and you would be surprised how quickly it is used up when you are raising a child. Let's raise enough money to allow this precious woman to pay everything off and have enough left over to stay home with her baby, raise that child and send him or her off to college. Hugs to you Katherine.
This family needs all the prayers they can get, this young man was my brother in laws cousin, i didnt know him personally but hear nothing but what an amazing person he was. His mother needs prayers also as she has a massive stroke today. Keep this going and keep them in your prayers
This man lost his life doing his best to help others fight for theirs. Not only was he rasing money for such a worthy cause that I hold dearly to my heart, but everyday he helped people. He was a life saver. A Hero. What a senseless, heartless person to take this mans life. Such a tragedy he will never hold his new born child, such a tragedy that his child will always long for the hero that was taken from them mercilessly. What a sad world we live in. Rest in peace hero. Family are in my thoughts x
As this story spreads...reaching your new goal is attainable, I would consider leaving it open for 30 days or even 2 weeks. I know no amount of money will bring this man back, but if perfect strangers can make his families struggle a little less, then by all means keep it open. Nothing wrong with letting people help. Not even 1,500 people donated and raised over $60,00 that is amazing!
My son and brother both have muscular dystrophy and are part of the mda family! He was out raising money for families like mine and he is truly a hero to us and many other families. Praying for friends and family during this very difficult time!!!
RIP. I am praying for the family. May God comfort his wife and baby. I also pray for healing of his mother. Tragedy affects people in so many ways. It is so sad that someone can in an instant change the course of so many lives. Thank you Sir for your service to your country and your community. You are truly a hero. RIP
It purely amazes me how so many can come together during tragedy or need! I am so proud to have personally know Dennis and his family. They are loved by so many in our little town. Dennis is and always will be our hometown hero!! Thanks for the out pouring of love to him and his loved ones. You have no idea the true impact you see making by donating even a small amount. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
My heart goes out to Mrs. Rodeman and their growing child...I'm so sorry for your terribly tragic loss! I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our community as well as across the country, and I hope the family, friends and loved ones feels their support and kindness. While I didn't know him personally, I trust that Dennis walked with the same love and compassion that is being reflected back to his loved ones in the wake of his untimely passing. May he rest in peace and continue his watch over his family and loved ones.
