LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit
By adopting a unit at LaGrave on First, you can help make a unit a HOME for an individual in our community who is experiencing chronic homelessness.
The Grand Forks Housing Authority and Grand Forks Homes, Inc. are excited to bring a unique outreach opportunity to Grand Forks. Through the LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit program, community members can truly make an impact with gifts as small as $.79 (Yes, 79 cents!), all the way up to $500 to cover one whole unit or more.
Prior to August 1, our challenge to the community is to raise enough funds and donations to supply each of the 42 apartments at LaGrave on First with the necessity items one would need to live in an apartment. In most cases, the individuals moving into LaGrave on First will arrive with only what they can carry in a small bag or backpack. This summer’s donation drive will focus on household necessities like basic dinnerware, towels, bedding, personal care items, and kitchen supplies. For those who would prefer to donate items, registries have been set up through Target to ensure each unit receives the same items. To view the public registry, go to: tgt.gifts/LaGraveonFirst
Additional registries have been set up through our Adopt-a-Unit partners who have committed to participating in the program:
Sharon Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LoFSharon
St. Mark's Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LaGraveonFirstStMarks
St. Paul's Episcopal Church: tgt.gifts/LoFStPauls
United Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LoFUnited
University Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LoFUniversityLutheran
Are you a member of a local congregation, service organization, or community group that would like to give back through your own donation drive? Contact Emily C. at the GFHA to have a registry set up for your organization.
Grand Forks Homes, Inc. is the proud owner of LaGrave on First, the region’s first Housing First – Permanent Supportive Housing facility. Prospective LaGrave on First residents will have been stuck in a cycle of homelessness, where they may go from an emergency shelter, to social detox, the hospital or even jail, and then repeat – not being able to get or keep a job or find a place to live. LaGrave on First will help these individuals break their cycle by providing a place to live and on-site access to agencies offering services to help the residents in whatever area they need. LaGrave on First is different than other housing options because it pairs the resident with an affordable, permanent apartment unit as quickly as possible (“housing first”), then offers voluntary support services in an effort to improve the daily lives of residents and reduce the likelihood of harm to themselves or others (“harm reduction”). Grand Forks Homes is fortunate to bring a proven solution to our community along with the co-developer and future property manager, the Grand Forks Housing Authority. More information on LaGrave on First can be found at www.thegfha.org/housing-first.
All funds received will go directly toward the purchase of necessity items for LaGrave on First. GF Homes and GFHA will not use any funds toward administrative costs. Should dollars in excess of the $21,000 needed to outfit units be received, an update will be provided regarding additional needs at LaGrave on First.
