Zacks Recovery

Donation protected
Zack was on his way home from work on Friday July 15th and went off the road, hit a telephone pole and guard rail.  No one else was hurt in the accident.  Most likely concussed, he walked into the middle of the street and a truck swerved to miss him.  The truck caught the wires of the telephone pole and the telephone pole crashed down on his head.  The strike fractured much of the right side of his skull and then he was electrocuted.  He is currently in the ICU trauma center at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh.  Because his brain was swelling, they removed 2 portions of skull to give it room.  He is currently being kept in a sedated state to give his brain time to rest.  When they take him off of sedation he is able to follow commands and respons with the right side of his body.  The left side responds to pain but is much slower than the right side.  He has localized DAI (diffuse axonal injury) in his brain stem, which means when he is allowed to wake up the rehabilitaion process may be long.   His family is there with him every day patiently waiting for the first signs of recovery.  For all of you who know Zack and how strong willed he is, you know that if anyone can pull through this it will be him.  For now we are just trying to be patient and allowing his brain and body to rest.  Because of the extent of his injuries, we expect the recovery time to be some years and his family and insurance will not be able to take care of it on their own.  We are reaching out now to all of you who know an love Zack and asking for your help.  He needs it.  He and his family will be so grateful for any assistance.   Please feel free to FB or email me for more info and updates.
