Zack was on his way home from work on Friday July 15th and went off the road, hit a telephone pole and guard rail.  No one else was hurt in the accident.  Most likely concussed, he walked into the middle of the street and a truck swerved to miss him.  The truck caught the wires of the telephone pole and the telephone pole crashed down on his head.  The strike fractured much of the right side of his skull and then he was electrocuted.  He is currently in the ICU trauma center at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh.  Because his brain was swelling, they removed 2 portions of skull to give it room.  He is currently being kept in a sedated state to give his brain time to rest.  When they take him off of sedation he is able to follow commands and respons with the right side of his body.  The left side responds to pain but is much slower than the right side.  He has localized DAI (diffuse axonal injury) in his brain stem, which means when he is allowed to wake up the rehabilitaion process may be long.   His family is there with him every day patiently waiting for the first signs of recovery.  For all of you who know Zack and how strong willed he is, you know that if anyone can pull through this it will be him.  For now we are just trying to be patient and allowing his brain and body to rest.  Because of the extent of his injuries, we expect the recovery time to be some years and his family and insurance will not be able to take care of it on their own.  We are reaching out now to all of you who know an love Zack and asking for your help.  He needs it.  He and his family will be so grateful for any assistance.   Please feel free to FB or email me for more info and updates.

Zack can get up from laying down to standing now with a walker by himself. His physical therapist Tim thinks that he may probably be walking with a walker in the next couple of weeks. Yay! All of his therapists are astounded by his leaps and bounds of progress. He works very hard everyday. He is working on his left arm and hand and being able to control it. His left side was affected the most by his brain injury, as the right side of his brain was injured. He talks really well now and is as sharp witted and capricious as ever. And he wants a horse. Thank you all for your support of Zack and his family. It is soon appreciated. Please keep the prayers and love coming.

Zack continues to improve everyday. He is getting much stronger and his sense of humor is fully intact. And he has decided that he needs a horse. Thank you again everyone who was able to make it out for his fundraiser at Muse. It was a great day and a great success. FIG restaurant donated a gift card that didn't make it to us in time for the event. The gift card is for $250 and we would like to get at least $200 for it. Quite a deal really. Please FB message me or email me if you are interested. kellemd@yahoo.com. First one gets it, unless you want to outbid the $200. Zack and his family thank you all for your continued love and support. It is still much needed and appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who helped with Zack Behm's fundraiser at Muse and everyone who came to support. It was a great day and we raised $2,700! Every bit counts. Zack was face-timing everyone through the whole event and had a smile ear to ear. Not only was it amazing the funds that were raised, but the amount of support from all of his friends in Charleston that wanted to participate and contribute. Thank you Beth Anne Crane at Muse restaurant for hosting the event! And thank you so much to everyone who showed up for Zack! He continues to get stronger and can now pull him self up to a seated position from laying down. He also told me today that he will be walking very soon. He works so hard every day. Its amazing the progress he is making. Thank you all so much for your continued support.

Zack's standing frame and electric wheel chair/ battery have arrived and are being put to good use! He said that the standing frame, which he uses at least once a day to practice standing has helped with the pain in his bum, and he has been practicing in his motorized wheelchair a lot and next week is planning an outing with Colleen to the mall to zip around. His speech is improving everyday and he is becoming quite the conversationalist. A handicap accessible van is much needed for transport. That will be the next big purchase. Thank you so much for all of the love being sent his way and to his family! Please keep it coming and please keep him in your prayers and thoughts.
