Zack was on his way home from work on Friday July 15th and went off the road, hit a telephone pole and guard rail.  No one else was hurt in the accident.  Most likely concussed, he walked into the middle of the street and a truck swerved to miss him.  The truck caught the wires of the telephone pole and the telephone pole crashed down on his head.  The strike fractured much of the right side of his skull and then he was electrocuted.  He is currently in the ICU trauma center at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh.  Because his brain was swelling, they removed 2 portions of skull to give it room.  He is currently being kept in a sedated state to give his brain time to rest.  When they take him off of sedation he is able to follow commands and respons with the right side of his body.  The left side responds to pain but is much slower than the right side.  He has localized DAI (diffuse axonal injury) in his brain stem, which means when he is allowed to wake up the rehabilitaion process may be long.   His family is there with him every day patiently waiting for the first signs of recovery.  For all of you who know Zack and how strong willed he is, you know that if anyone can pull through this it will be him.  For now we are just trying to be patient and allowing his brain and body to rest.  Because of the extent of his injuries, we expect the recovery time to be some years and his family and insurance will not be able to take care of it on their own.  We are reaching out now to all of you who know an love Zack and asking for your help.  He needs it.  He and his family will be so grateful for any assistance.   Please feel free to FB or email me for more info and updates.

Happy Birthday Zack! Well, it was yesterday actually and he turned the big 28. He celebrated with his family and his Cure family at the Cure Christmas party, which doubled as a birthday party. He had a great time. His parents just purchased a standing frame, which gets him up in a supported standing position and allows his body to remember how to stand and re train those muscles. Next on the wish list is a motorized wheelchair and a van. Right now every time he needs to go somewhere out of the house they have to call special transportation, which arrives on their schedule and only operates certain hours. Also its so bumpy that it makes rattle out and makes Zack carsick nearly every time. Thank you everyone who has kept Zack in your thoughts and prayers and for the continued support for him and his family. He has come a very long way and still have a long way to go. Please continue to send the love!

Zack's fundraiser on the 31st was very successful! Tickets were sold out, 20 restaurants showed up with amazing food, cash bar and all of the proceeds went to him! There was a substantial amount of goods at the silent auction to be had. The band was great and a good time was had by all. Thank you! Thank you! to Hillary and Justin and their team at Cure Restaurant for putting together such a great party and also to all of the restaurants, provers, volunteers, donors and attendees who worked so hard to make it such a great success. Lots of funds were raised for Zacks continued medical expenses. More is still needed and so on March 12th we are holding a Brunch Fundraiser for Zack at Muse Restaurant and Wine Bar. I know that his Charleston friends have been waiting to be able to participate in something to help Zack and it will be a great event. Please contact me if you would be willing to help. Thank you and look forward to seeing you again soon Charleston! Please feel free to donate to Zacks cause here on go fund me. Everything that you have all done already is so appreciated. He does need our continued support. Thank you!

Zack called me this morning and sounded great! He has returned home after a 24 hour stint in the hospital due to a seizure. He is back on seizure medication now. He says he is feeling good except for the pain in his right leg. In the hospital they did another x-ray on it and everything looks fine, so we don't know where the pain is coming from but it bothers him a lot. He has been asking for his brother Josh so he came to see him last night and will stay for the weekend. Zack told me he was happy that he was there. Everything continues to move forward with his fundraiser thanks to his Cure family in Pittsburgh. Tickets are funning out for his event! If you are in Pittsburgh and haven't yet bought one, now is the time! https://www.facebook.com/events/1029901993823087/
