Lauren's Fight with Choriocarcinoma

Donation protected
Hello my name is Darlene Topping and I am the mother of Lauren Topping. On May 2, 2014 Lauren, 21, and her boyfriend Larry, 23, found out that they were expecting their first baby. Their first appointment was in June. They got to hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time and found out that the baby was due December 31, 2014. In August they found out they were expecting a healthy little boy. They chose to name him Dylan James Cervone. Everything was going great and seemed to be falling into place. They were so excited to be parents. Throughout the pregnancy there were no issues. But on December 1, 2014 Lauren noticed that Dylan wasn't moving. She called her doctor and they sent her down to West Penn Triage. The doctors were unable to find his heartbeat and discovered that Dylan had passed away in utero.  They were 35 weeks and 6 days along. They were absolutely heartbroken.  On December 2, 2014 my 7th grandchild Dylan was born sleeping. He was a beautiful 6lb 3oz little boy. On December 20th Lauren started hemorrhaging and had to rush to the emergency room. The doctors believed it was caused by leftover products of conception. On December 24th she got a D&C and they collected samples to be tested. On January 3rd Lauren had some abnormal bleeding so on January 5th she had an ultrasound and bloodwork done. She was told by her OBGYN that she needed to go to see a specialist. On Wednesday January 7th her and Larry found out from the specialist that a chest X-ray and the other tests had revealed an extremely rare form of Cancer called Choriocarcinoma. Choriocarcinoma is a Cancer that occurs after pregnancy or in some cases the male testes. Less than 200,000 cases have been diagnosed in the US. After a new chest X-ray and full body CT scans it was discovered that Lauren has stage 3 Choriocarcinoma Cancer. She has a tumor in her uterus that is 6.5 cm in size and 20 masses in her lungs (4 masses about 20mm in size and 16 smaller ones).  Her HCG levels before starting chemo were over 547,000. These levels in a normal non pregnant woman should be in the range of 0-4 so she has to get to that normal range. Lauren started her Chemotherapy right away to keep the Cancer from spreading any further. Her first round started on January 9th. Each round of chemo is a 14 day cycle. Lauren receives her chemo on days 1, 2, and 8. Her and Larry stay at the hospital on days 1 and 2 and do outpatient treatment on day 8. After just 1 round of chemo Lauren's hair started to fall out so she decided to shave it all off on January 24th. So far Lauren is doing pretty well but the more treatments she receives the more side effects she experiences. Lauren and Larry are really doing a great job staying positive even after all they have been through. They are able to stay positive because they have each other and because of all of the love and support they are receiving from family and friends. Lauren has been unable to return to work since December 1st and won't be returning to work until after the Chemotherapy is over. That means that Larry is the soul provider in their home right now. He is doing his best but the bills are becoming too much for him to handle on his own. Plus there are a lot of new added expenses because of the chemotherapy.  So I am asking for all of you to help in anyway that you can. Whether that be a prayer or a donation. Any help that you can offer is extremely appreciated. Please pray for God to watch over Lauren and Larry and get them through this difficult time. Our fight is on! God bless you all!
