KRISH NAIR BRAIN STEM AVM RESEARCH

Donation protected
Krish was a fun loving, bubbly 10 year old boy in perfect health. He was 5 feet, 120 lbs and loved baseball, basketball and football.  He was a left-handed fast pitcher and a left-handed batter who played 1st and 3rd base. There was a lot of interest from different baseball leagues in the neighborhood and they were all eager to have Krish on their baseball team. Krish as a 4th grader, also played basketball on the Founders Classical Academy school team that consisted of 5th and 6th graders. He was very successful academically and had strong religious beliefs. He believed in non-violence and never intentionally or unintentionally hurt any living being even if it were bugs or ants.

Life was perfect for Krish with no prior medical conditions. On January 28, 2017, Krish suffered from a ruptured brain AVM. Within a minute he became unresponsive, and had to be airlifted to the Medical City Hospital in Dallas for a craniotomy. The neurosurgeon said he had excessive bleeding and a clot that put pressure on his brain stem. Even though the surgery was successful, Krish continued to be in a coma for several weeks. The upper part of his brain continued to show activity for the first few weeks but then he had another stroke and it was determined that there was no activity in his brain.

On February 21, 2017, Krish was pronounced brain dead at 11:55 AM. Even though the doctors mentioned on day 1 that day by day all his organs would stop working, he fought hard and proved them all wrong. All his organs continued to work perfectly. His family decided to donate his organs for the betterment of other sick children in need, and save other families from experiencing the suffering of losing a loved one.

As a result of this, Krish continued to remain on the ventilator until Friday February 24, 2017. His heart and kidney went to another 10 year child who was really sick. Rest of his organs including his other kidney, liver, intestines and pancreas saved 3 additional lives. His eyes will be used to give eyesight to someone who has never been able to see.

On Friday, February 24, Krish became a HERO for 5 families.

Krish had no past injuries or symptoms that would have helped to diagnose the brain AVM. This fundraiser is to generate awareness about AVM and help research to diagnose brain AVMs. It was very disheartening to sit on the other side of the table and hear from medical staff/doctors that there is no cure/no research to understand the intricate details of the functioning of the brain stem area that was impacted by the AVM. There is no medical solution such as transplant, regeneration, or surgery even if the AVM was diagnosed early due to risk of damaging the brain stem which could result in brain death leading to loss of life.

Our sincere hope is that by creating awareness and enabling research, we are able to save precious lives of little children and help preserve happiness of families.

Krish is survived by his mom, dad and older brother Sid who live in Flower Mound, Texas. This campaign is managed and owned by Krish's dad - Pradeep Nair.

The funding will be used to spread the word about this deadly disease and also to invest in brain AVM and brain stem research.
