Rae's Medical Fund

I would like to introduce you all to Rae L’Heureux. Rae is one of the kindest, happiest, most selfless people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is strong, independent and nothing short of amazing! Rae is also battling severe kidney disease that requires a transplant as soon as she can get it. She has also just finished a successful battle against breast cancer! This is Rae’s story and why we are asking for help for her:

In 1997 she was admitted into the ER with really bad side and back pain. They took her in for a CAT scan and after it was done said the tech said " well...I don't think it's your appendix...it's probably your gall bladder...and you already know about the Polycystic Kidney Disease." That was how she found out.

A lot of people that have PKD don't even know they have it. It is not discovered many people have the disease until after they have passed and an autopsy is performed. Rae’s doctor’s reassured her it was nothing to worry about and with regular monitoring she would be just fine.

Fast forward to 2014- Rae’s Kidney function rates had dropped drastically to 15% which meant that she may be able to skip dialysis and go straight in to the transplant phase. This was not what happened though.

As Rae was lined up to be put on the transplant list her doctor discovered that she had breast cancer. After two surgeries to remove the cancer, which included a mastectomy and removal of a few lymph nodes, Rae is 100% cancer free! Which is absolutely wonderful news but she is not out of the woods for a long while. Due to her cancer diagnosis the transplant board said she must wait another 4 years before she can even apply to be put on the transplant list. That means at least 4 more years on dialysis.

The bottom line is it is just Rae. She has no partner to rely on and her family lives in California. She has always depended on herself for everything she needs. Rae is an incredibly independent woman and would never ask for help on her own but the fact of the matter is that she does need help. Her medical insurance does not nearly cover what her bills are and she constantly has the additional pressure of attempting to stay on top of her medical bills while trying to manage her other monthly bills, like paying her mortgage and buying food. No one should have to be concerned about if they are going to be able to eat while battling not one, but two life threating diseases.

At this point in their treatment, most patients have gone on disability or have partners that can help them financially. She does not have any of those choices. Rae continues to go to work each and every day. She has no sick time left so she uses what little vacation time she has left to get to her medical appointments because going on disability only covers half of your weekly pay and when making the ends meet it already tight, going on disability no longer becomes an option.

Rae needs our help! Anything you are able to manage would mean the world to Rae. Even sending her your most positive thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this and Happy Holidays!
