Tanzania Library Expansion

$8,690 of $14,000 goal

Raised by 73 people in 5 months
Created August 22, 2018
I am a 16 year old Junior at La Salle College High School. I am raising money to expand a community library that our long-time family friends, the Mshombas, built in Tanzania. Richard Mshomba grew up in Tanzania and came to the U.S. to attend college. He is currently a professor at La Salle University with his PhD in Economics.

Two years ago, with the help of volunteers in Tanzania, he and his family built a one-room library in his home village of Sinon in Arusha. You can read more about the original project in the article below.
https://www.lasalle.edu/magazine/story/changing-the-world-one-education-at-a-time/

While this is an incredible achievement, more still needs to be done. I am working with the Mshombas to expand the library and provide more textbooks and laptops. Their library is only the second public library in a region with 1.7 million people.

I would really appreciate any support you can provide.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I reached my goal of raising $40,000 to double the size of the textbook library in Tanzania! Thank you so much for all of your support. I wanted to give you an update and let you how the project is going. Construction has started and we anticipate that by the end of March the library’s structure will be completed. Furniture and all needed textbooks will follow.

This June my family and I will travel to Sinon, Tanzania to see the new library. (We will be bringing 10 laptops with us.) Please see the pictures below showing the building progress. If you’d like to get regular updates on the construction, I will post pictures on my website www.tanzanialibrary.com

Thank you again for your support. None of this would have been possible without your help.

Sincerely,
Matt Hladczuk

Thank you so much for all of your support on my project to double the size of our family friend’s library in Arusha, Tanzania. This one room text book library is only the 2nd public library serving 1.7 million people. Please see my website for more information www.tanzanialibrary.com

In the last 3 months, I have raised $31,000! These funds will go directly towards the construction of the new library…which starts in four weeks. Please see the architectural rendering of the new building. We will be visiting Tanzania the last week of June to see the new library and meet many of the children who study there.

My goal is to raise the remaining $7,000 by December 31. $3,000 for books, $2,000 for furniture and $2,000 for a security system.

On Giving Tuesday, I was wondering if you would consider sending this link to one other person who might support this project.

Thank you.
