If you are reading this. Mahalo nui, Thank you for taking the time to know Kanaʻs story.

My Name is Ulu Makuakane, Iʻm Kanaʻs wife. I organized this go fund me for Kana because I have so much faith in him and I know in my heart that he will be healed. As you read along youʻll be informed about all the events that occurred to this point and what we will use the funds for.

Kana Mook is a loving son,  grandson, cousin, friend, amazing father and husband. He is known for his joking personality and positive spirit. He is the life of the party. He is originally from Waimanalo but currently resides in Ka`u on Hawai`i Island. We have two beautiful children a 3 yr old and 1 yr old. They are our motivation and pride.

2018 has been tough for Kana and tough for us as a family.

January 26th, 2018.
Kana was seen by an Orthopedic due to a left knee injury from work. Although he was in pain and slightly limping the doctor sent him back to work with no restrictions. He told Kana if it gets worse to see him in a month.

February 2018
His knee has progressively worsened and goes back to the Orthopedic. He is given a note with one restriction. The restriction is to use a golf cart for long distances.

May 10th, 2018
Kana goes for a swim with his son and lightly kicks his left leg which results in immediate swelling and immobility to walk. He is taken to Urgent care where he is given a brace, crutches and ibuprofen.

Ulu is also laid off from work due to the Volcanic activity from the Kilauea Eruption.

June 2018
He requests a switch to orthopedics and is referred to a place in Honolulu. They take an MRI and find a hole in his knee cartilage. They believed that with Physical Therapy he is able to overcome the injury in 6 weeks.

July 2018
Kana begins Physical Therapy. He has some improvement but is still not able to walk or put weight on his left leg. He is still in crutches.

August 2018
Returns to Honolulu and receives news of surgery

September 4th 2018
Kana receives surgery which takes approx. 30 minutes. As the anesthesia wears off he has seizure like symptoms and is taken to the ER as a precaution. They found high levels of lactate acid and he was discharged around 3 a.m.

September 24th, 2018
Flies to Honolulu for a check up and is told that he needs to begin Physical Therapy immediately to keep his knee from getting worse. He is in severe pain and is not able to get up to use the bathroom or bathe.

October 24th, 2018
Kana has only had two sessions of physical therapy prior to his appointment in Honolulu. He is in severe pain in his entire left leg. The doctor has concerns because there is slight discoloration in his leg and they aren't able to find a pulse. He is admitted into the Hospital

As of October 24th, 2018 till January 2019  Kana is in the worse pain of his LIFE. Doctors have come to agree on one thing and that is CRPS. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. It is described as burning, swelling, tingling, numbing, pins and needles, discoloration and sensitive to touch. Even the slightest brush of his leg will send him to scream and yell. It causes high inflammation and nerve dysfunction. Above is a current picture of Kana. His left leg is unable to move due to the pain. Pain has spread to his right foot from shin to toe and left hand from shoulder to fingertip.

He cannot walk, sit, use the bathroom or bathe on his own.

CRPS is known as the "Suicide Disease". Patients suffer from so much pain that they WANT to end their life. He has had THIS conversation with his loved ones. The pain is unbearable.

Kana is currently receiving treatments from PIBCOA Hawaii and is out of the Hospital

On February 13th, 2019 Kana began receiving treatments from PIBCOA Hawaii. PIBCOA is also known as the Pain, Injury and Brain Centers of America.

Many of you know that during Kana's hospital stay, we were aiming to receive treatments at the Neurologic Relief Center in Arkansas. Our families, friends and those who saw Kana's story donated and fundraised money to help cover expenses once he got there.

As time passed we realized that getting to Arkansas was going to be a huge hurdle. As Kana's CRPS got worse, along with his thoughts of suicide we began to lose hope.

Until... we met the Pearls of PIBCOA.

Karina Pearl, who is the President/Owner along with her husband Roman, moved their practice from Las Vegas to Hawai`i JUST... FOR... KANA's... CASE. How flippin amazing is that????

We've been in contact with Roman and Karina since December. They learned about Kana's story and reached out to us. Once we did our research on PIBCOA, we decided to start treatments immediately. However, due to Kana's admission in the hospital and PIBCOA not affiliated with Queens, treatments couldn't happen till Kana was DISCHARGED.

If you think about it, Kana had no reason to be in the hospital anymore. The Queens Medical Center did everything that they could. It was CRPS holding him back and keeping him prisoner.

Take a look at this video of Kana today and his progress with PIBCOA

All the monies collected so far has been used to start treatments with PIBCOA Hawaii.

Due to Kana's case being very severe he will need more rounds of treatments than normally given. We are humbly asking for more funds to complete his treatment and ensure that his CRPS symptoms is gone.

I have also taken the role as Kana's Caregiver and have not been working since May.

The Donations collected will be going directly to Kanas account. We will remain transparent to all those who donate.

Any amount of monies and prayers are welcomed and will be greatly appreciated. Please KOKUA (help) KANA!!!!!!!
