Knowlton Family Memorial Fund

Donation protected
On Sat., February 6th, Yakima resident Ron Knowlton was struck and killed just two blocks from his home on Fourth Avenue. He was riding a bicycle with lights front and back in a quiet residential neighborhood, and the driver fled the scene (she was later caught and arrested). You can read the story in the Yakima Herald here .

Ron worked as a custodian at Robertson Elementary here in Yakima for many years, and he also worked for the Moses Lake School District before the family moved here ten years ago. He and his wife Pamala have three special-needs adult children. Pam has been unable to work for over twenty years due to managing their  work/school schedules, and caring for them at home.

I first met Pam in Moses Lake when we both joined a support group for mothers of multiples when her twin daughters were babies twenty years ago, and we're still gallivanting off on strange adventures today (she's even been brave enough to accompany me on assignment when I was working for Yakima Magazine :).

This is a family whose love, patience and strong Christian faith has brought them through some incredible obstacles so far, but now they have lost their husband and father as well as their main source of income.

I'm overwhelmed with grief for Ron's untimely loss, but I'm also deeply concerned about the challenges my dear friend is now facing without her beloved husband at her side.  Those of you who know the family also probably know that Ron's father (one of his only surviving close relatives) has end-stage Alzheimer's (he's in a care facility right now).  Pam will now be responsible for making decisions about Herbert's care and making his final arrangements as well.

The money raised in this campaign will be used to cover Ron's funeral expenses as well as provide for some financial cushion for Pam as she negotiates this enormous change in their lives.

I know people can feel funny donating money online, but GoFundMe has an account option that allows whomever you're raising money for to be the sole person who can access the funds raised. Pam Knowlton is the only person who will be able to access the funds raised here.

Thank you so much--Lisa "Elly" Bailey.
