Knit Around the Clock 2017
Donation protected
It's time again for our annual Knit Around the Clock Fundraiser! This past year has seen a lot of growth in the program as we've expanded into Division 4 from Division 17. We now hold two weekly classrooms because of this, and we look forward to holding more with the coming expansion into Division 8.
Additionally, we are excited to announce the Jaqueline Thomas Memorial Fund, in memory of officer Jackie Thomas who passed away this year. Jackie was a fabulous advocate and supporter of Committed Knitter's Program, and she is sorely missed. The Jaqueline Thomas Memorial Fund will provide funding so that Officers at Cook County Jail can access free knitting supplies and classes in connection with our program.
Funding, physical donations, and new volunteers are all exceedingly important in supporting all of these changes and keeping up with the rapid growth of the program. We appreciate whatever amount you can give, and thank you for your continued support!

Committed Knitters has been teaching knitting and crochet to incarcerated women in Cook County Jail for 10 years. Knitting is an extremely beneficial skill for these women, as it boosts self esteem, allows them to connect with loved ones by making them gifts, controls the anger or addiction issues so many of them struggle with, and fosters a community of safety within the environment of incarceration. After participating in one of our classes students have access to free classes and supplies through Yarnify in downtown Chicago so that they may continue their newfound skill without monetary concern. We also send a package with supplies and their completed projects to them upon their return home.
These classes rely on volunteers, donations, and our annual Knit Around the Clock fundraiser. As we allow students to keep their projects and access free materials after their release, we have a high material turnover rate and are constantly in need. What our fundraisers and donations don't cover comes from the pockets of our volunteers.
