Hello my name is Knia Hutchings
I am on a mission and journey to fulfill my dream to become a doctor. I decided I would like to use my life helping and servicing others. My personal struggle with my own health inspired my passion to go into the field of medicine. Currently, I volunteer in the emergency room at the Johnson Memorial Hospital: Saint Francis. I am a junior in high school as well as a freshman in college at Asnuntuck Community College through the high school partnership program. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to attend for free and start earning college credits based on my GPA. In addition, I received an invitation to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: medicine. A 9 day out state stay,opportunity to earn 2 college credits at George Mason University, hands on experience and an opportunity to participate in an interactive surgical procedure.,network and qualify for numerous scholarships .
I am greatly honored and humbled.
Students are picked based on demonstrated leadership abilities. In addition, I received a certificate for the National Academy of future Physicians and medical scientists Award of Excellence based on outstanding grades leadership potential and determination to serve community in the field of Medicine.
I dipped my toe in several areas of interest. However, nothing touched my heart, passion, and energy like becoming a doctor. Throughout my 16 years of life I struggled with my health, I was always left out of many things because of it. I was even homebound from school and needed tutors to come to my home. I never let it stop me from giving it my best. Thus,I became a honor student and joined in organization to help others. I spent one spring at age 13 attending college with my mother as she went back to school to complete her college education. There I was surrounded by people who never gave up and kind professors who let me sit in class and participate. I am asking for prayers first especially with my ongoing health struggles,my safety and journey. Prayers are greatly appreciated and is the best of all gifts. In addition, I am asking for financial support. The forum that I was invited to attend comes with an out of pocket cost for tuition, travel, food,additional classes,and more. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
