$34,635 of $50,000 goal

Created February 20, 2018
On Monday, February 19th, the Klingler family experienced a family tragedy. Early in the day while snowboarding at Mount Rose, middle son Tyler fell, and required transport to Renown for evaluation. He was diagnosed with a broken tail bone and sent home.

Upon return home, youngest son Rhett was riding his bike in front of the house while the family cleaned up from the day. His father, a Fire Captain for the Storey County Fire Protection District while on duty, received another call that his youngest son had been hurt. While riding in front of the house Rhett had a ramp set up next to the curb to jump his bike. A car coming up the road went to far onto the shoulder striking the ramp and then hitting Rhett.  Rhett was thrown some feet landing in the neighbors front yard. The elderly driver stopped a distance away and possibly was experiencing a medical episode herself.

Fortunately, with the quick response from Sparks Fire Department and REMSA, Rhett was tended to by emergency personnel in minutes. He was transported to the trauma center at Renown, in Reno Nevada. Rhett is currently listed in critical but stable condition. He suffered a closed head injury with a small brain bleed and a fracture to his femur. He is currently sedated and on a ventilator with family at his bed side. Surgeons hoped to operate on Wednesday but with his overall condition they elected to move the surgery to Thursday.

Storey County Fire Fighters Association would like to establish an account to assist with the costs levied on Brother Klingler's family. Meals have been provided for now but a long term plan is in the works. Any and all donations will be appreciated.

A family liaison has been established and can be contacted at 775-315-1405 or emails can be sent to JMcCullough@IAFF4227.org for any inquires.

Progress, progress, progress!!! HUGE milestone today!

We have been waiting 16 days for this....there they are....the double eyebrows are back!!!!!!!

We’ve had another big day here in Salt Lake City. We had our swallow test today and passed, so we get to eat now!!! We are going on a calorie count and if he can eat enough, we can ditch the feeding tube!!

Rhettster is getting a new set of goals since we’ve already crushed this week’s. We’ve had some movement on the right side. He’s learning to be aware of the arm especially. He got it up on the table to eat lunch by himself. He batted some balls in PT today and played some cards in OT. He’s getting pretty good at UNO!

We are so happy with his progress and so optimistic about where he will be when our time here is up.

We send our thanks and love. ❤️❤️❤️

More amazing news from The Klingler family and #RHETTSTRONG!!!

Today, we are letting that personality shine!! Rhett has been amused by movie quotes and his new coughing name for me. He used his yes/no chart and promised me he would say mom tomorrow!

He has also been learning and practicing getting himself around in the wheelchair! We just have to get that right side of his body moving and responding so he won’t have to steer with his left foot!

He got a personal feature in Billy Idol’s Facebook page today, so he’s officially a big deal

We are really hoping for videos tomorrow of him talking

We will keep you all posted. Xoxo
