UPDATE 3-15-17
I have great news! A stranger has come forward to pick up the tab for yesterday's medication prescriptions that totaled $924!!
The same as stranger paid for his visit to blue pearl yesterday that totaled $135.75!!!
This man is so generous!
Like me, he could not bear the thought of KK being left untreated and unloved!!he is MY HERO AND KK AGREES!!

UPDATE-- 3-23-16
The vet today prescribed a very potent anti-fungal medication (sporanox) to be administered twice a day for four months. The medication is extremely expensive.
Tomorrow at 10 AM we will be getting two weeks of medication from a chain pharmacy for $860.
We have ordered 180 capsules from Canada that should arrive in two weeks for $418.
The visit today was $125.
She detected an infection in one of his ears and prescribed an ointment for $10.50.
We will have to go back to the vet every couple of weeks so that they can run a test on his liver. I don't know yet how much those visits will cost.
This type of medication can sometimes cause damage. Anything will help.

Report on the tissue that was removed from his nasal cavity shows KK has a fungus called aspergillus.
MORE visits and treatments are necessary. Any amount will help! He is scheduled to see an internal medicine doctor next week.
KK's surgery went $967 over the estimate. The extra went to a second night's stay, more medications than thought and sending three pieces of tissues to be tested. Thanks for understanding!

THERE IS A VIDEO ABOUT KK UNDER THE UPDATES SECTION -- The surgery is going to cost between $3500 and $3700 (barring any complications). IT ENDED UP COSTING $4467.

KK is scheduled for surgery Tuesday, March 7th at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Franklin,TN. Feel free to make a donation directly to them -- [phone redacted].

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words , well, here's the picture and I can think of a million words.
On January 31, my mother spotted this 5-6 year old stray on her property, curled up at the base of a tree, malnourished and LIFELESS -- AND NOT MAKING A SOUND.
Once she realized he was too weak to walk -- she went back to her house to get a scarg and big towel.
With the help of my father, the two slowly and gently dragged the dog up the hill to their home -- about 100 feet.
They fed and watered him --- and somehow -- KK made it thru the night and the next day I took him to the vet.
KK was malnourished, had worms, had two broken teeth and his nose was running like a faucet -- green mucus. No broken bones -- and no apparent blood loss.
At first, the vet thought his runny nose was due to a abcessed tooth. She told me once he gained weight and got stronger she would remove the tooth.
When that day came, she x-rayed his head first -- to see how deep the root of the tooth was -- and SHE WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HE HAD BEEN SHOT AND THE BULLET WAS STILL IN HIS HEAD ALONG WITH MANY BULLET FRAGMENTS.    She looked for an entry wound and could not find one -- so it was obvious, the bullet had been in there a long time.
When she told me the news -- I did not hesitate -- I asked, what's next? What could I do -- take it to the street and "dump him" for the next person?
This is not our dog -- still, I can not bear to see it suffer and have decided to do what I can to improve his quality of life.
This is difficult for me because my ten year-old dog, Puppy, had his spleen removed four days before mom found KK.
The path report revealed the spleen had ruptured and was cancerous. Puppy has a type of cancer called hemangiosarcoma. All this is just too much for me financially.  I need some help.
KK's first vet visit was $265.70, the second was $203.02 and the visit to BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Franklin, TN for the office visit, radiology consultation, putting KK to sleep, etc. so the surgeon could get a CT scan of his head was very expensive, $1,414.86.
A total of $1,883.58. And this is NOT counting the surgery he will have to undergo in order to get the bullet and bullet fragments out of his head.
The big pieces of the bullet can be removed with ease. However, there are may tiny pieces in what's called the nasal turbinates  --- which were heavily destroyed.                  While he can live with damaged nasal turbinates, he will likely have a runny nose the rest of his life --- but other than that, he should be just fine.
He has yet to bark, really, and we do not know why. Did someone beat him when he barked?  Was he shot because he barked? We will never know!
All I know, is that once I found out what was wrong with him -- I could not stand by and "do nothing".  But I need some help --- please help me help this poor helpless pooch.
Finally, I do want to find him a forever home. Is KK calling your name? I sure hope so --- he called mine!
