Molly's Poor Posterior

Meet Molly.  Molly is an 8 year old, 18.1 pound, bundle of love.  She has had a rough go of it-  her person died suddenly, and she was kicked out of her temporary home after 2.5 months because she was eating allll of the food, so much so that the original resident cats had none.  To the shelter she went....

Since Molly is such a sweetheart she had a very short stay at the shelter.  Yay, Molly!  You won this round!  You're the best!

Unfortunately for Molly, she does not handle change well.  Even though her new person is quiet, calm, and full of love to give to such a sweet girl she was not so convinced.  She didn't eat.  At all.  For at least three days. Which is even more concerning for such a *big* girl.  Obese cats that don't eat are at a high risk for hepatic lipidosis.   Molly's new person tried everything-  at least 8 different brands of wet food, various dry foods, human baby food, tuna fish made for people, bonito flakes.  Calming pheromone diffusers ($79.98), pheromone sprays ($34.99).  White noise.  Gentle petting.  Talking about her grief.

Wednesday, December 9th, Molly started vomiting green, frothy bile.  To the Emergency Vet we go!  Three X-rays showed she was severely constipated.  An enema, an appetite stimulant, an anti-nausea medication, and subq fluids later and she was free to go home.  After $380.65 was paid.

She still would not eat.  Syringe feeding did nothing to stimulate her appetite.   And she still would not poop.

More forced feeding, more love.  Nothing.

Friday, December 11th, she went to her new vet.  More X-rays, more subq fluids, a rectal exam, and you guessed it...  another enema later and she was free to go home.  After $528.30 was paid.

You see, Molly's new person works with at-risk youth in a residential and day treatment center.  As such, Molly's new person does not make a lot of money.  Like, at all.  But she loves her job and loves helping others.  And animals.  Funds aside, Molly's new person is willing to do whatever she can to help unwanted animals (and sometimes people).

Luckily, Molly began eating on her own on December 12th.  She has her first solo bowel movement on December 14th!  She appears to be well on the mend, and seems to feel comfortable in her new home.  She's a big, slobbery, loudmouthed, bundle of love.  <3

If you help Molly pay off her medical bills she would love to help make individual thank you cards.  Molly's new person makes amazing cards  =)

Molly has plenty of food.  She is eating some really fancy, tasty, good-for-cats food.  Molly's person is not so lucky, but has developed a taste for veggie burgers and spring rolls from the Dollar Tree (they're surprisingly not that awful- and pretty much all she can afford).

Please help if you can!
