Abandoned Kitten Emergency Sugery Fund

I got a call this evening (02/26/2014) that a cat had wandered onto a friend's porch whose mouth looked like it was "frozen shut".  After only a few seconds with him it was obvious that he had a serious oral infection, and that he was freezing cold and extremely malnourished.  I rushed him to Village Veterinary Hospital in Canastota, NY and left with the following report:

Well, 'Tiger' looks to be about 3-4 years old, and his bloodwork showed negative for Feline Leukemia/AIDS, which is the good news. His body temperature was DANGEROUSLY low and he was EXTREMELY malnourished... he was sadly close to freezing to death. His major problem however is a severe infection in his mouth which is something the 'owner' ABSOLUTELY was aware of, but left untreated for what looks to be several weeks. He is currently staying overnight, being kept warm, on fluids, and medicated to ease his pain. He is going to have to have extensive oral surgery, which includes the removal of most of his teeth which will then leave him a clean bill of health... to the tune of roughly $1,000. I had to make a decision whether or not to pay or have him put down, and as I said... I was not leaving there again with an empty carrier, so I made the commitment and now am just going to hope that things work out somehow.  I would certainly appreciate any assistance you can lend... even a few dollars will add up quickly.

Thank you,
Gary Johnson
