Kirk Wu - Memorial Fund for HS

On October 11th, 2018, Kirk Wu, a Columbia University student, dearly cherished friend and beloved son, passed away.  For those of us who had the privilege of knowing Kirk Wu, he was a radiant soul who exuded so much compassion and care for those around him.

He was intelligent, talented and above all, unforgettably kind and has made such a lasting impact in our community, for those who did and did not know him.   To lose someone who has made me laugh and smile, along with many others, nearly every day for the past six years is beyond painful.  There is a deep hole in my heart and I wish every day, I would wake up from this bad dream.

But as much sorrow his friends and the community feels, I cannot begin to imagine the grief of his parents, who have poured their love into him for the past 19 years.  But I know they are not alone.   That Thursday and the days following have been dark, solemn, but not silent.  The outpouring of tears, memories and reflection for him only show the immense warmness and unselfishness that we will always remember him for epitomizing.  I am putting together a memory book for his parents and if you have any memories and/or photos you would like to share, you can do so here.   Thank you so much for all your help.

Kirk Wu is originally from Los Angeles, but passed away at a school in New York.  Anything we could do to help his family work through this tragedy is more than greatly appreciated.  Every share counts and I am so thankful for you all for being so supportive and spreading his memory.

UPDATE: His family has decided to donate all proceeds to his local high school to start a program that will be intended to support the building of "not only smart kids and excellent students, but fighters with resilient minds, who are able to feel they can ask for help" and know that they will always be supported and loved by their peers, family and community. Whether it be through mental health education, building a more compassionate and inclusive community, his parents "don't want any other family to ever experience this pain worse than hell. If this could help anybody, it would make Kirk's passing meaningful and we believe this is what he would also want."   Kirk's father, James Wu, will be the beneficiary for this GoFundMe campaign.
