Happy Canada day

My fiancé and I spent 12 hours driving today to finally rescue a neglected pet we've been trying to help. Henri is a long haired chihuahua and approximately 8 years old and was just recently left to die on a barn roof in 30 degree weather. He is incredibly durable, but is beyond healing without some help from our Vet.

Henri's story: He was the remainder of a broken relationship and left at a parents place to essentially live in a cage. He is malnourished, depleted, and needs emotional healing. We first learned of Henri about a month ago and have been trying to adopt him since. June 24th we learned that they were willing to let us adopt him. We were to pick him up Friday June 30th. Unfortunately, the night before we had found out that Henri had ran away and was missing since Tuesday. For 3 days, this dog was missing, with the worst presumed, we thought we were too late.

Friday evening we find out that Henri was found! Someone had thrown him on a barn roof and left him for dead in the heat. Our hearts sunk but this morning (Canada day) at 5am we started our journey to add to our family.

We arrived to a shell of a dog, now with burnt pads on his paws from a hot roof and unable to chew properly due to his teeth. Yet, his spirits were still higher than ours.

What we do know:

1. Henri is not well and hasen't seen a Vet since, maybe ever.
2. His teeth are stage 4 periodontal disease and will require majority of them removed.
3. His stool is black, tarry, and bloody. This could be caused by anything from his diet to cancer, to being thrown on a barn. We simply won't know until we get some tests done.
4. He has not been neutered and has an infection on his genitalia.
5. He is dangerously thin, even for a chihuahua.
6. We can pet him almost everywhere, excluding his mouth area and his paws. Mouth due to his teeth and paws due to the hot roof. Otherwise he was OK to let us bath him and trim him. (Still needs a date with the groomer)

What we don't know:

1. The extent of his injuries.
2. What this will really cost.

Needles and checkup: $150
Teeth cleaning and extraction: $500/$600
Bloodwork, xray, etc: $300??
Antibiotics:????

This doesn't even include neutering or the possibility of needing surgery.

Again, we budgeted for some of this, but not to this extent. We are in the midst of our wedding planning and being married in September, so funds are tight currently.

We want to give Henri as many good years as we can. We have two beautiful dogs that have already accepted their new brother. I'll be adding some photos later (and will post after photos as well) as they are on a couple different phones.

Any support, from pennies to prayers, are welcome.

Thank you

Brendan, Nadine, Mazzy Star, Ruby Lane, and King Henry

Trying to get a pic of his teeth, but he is protective.

The picture does not do it justice.  He is a skeleton under all that hair
