Help Kim get her life back!

Kimberly was always running, ALWAYS!!! She was the type of mother that would sleep in her clothes and shoes, so she could be ready for anything life had to throw at her.  Always incredibly independent, she needed no one to provide for her or her kids.  This is just a little glimps into the life of Kimberly Parsons before her life got flipped upside down.

The story below is how Kim nearly died.

On August 2nd 2013, Kim went to CAMC Teays Valley with lower back pain. She was diagnosed with Sciatica. She was given Prednisone as well as other steroids that weaken the immune system, so we believe it allowed the abscess to flare up and come to light.

On August the 5th 2013, the pain became unbearable and she was not able to urinate. Her family took her to CAMC General in Charleston WV. They did an MRI and found an epidural abscess in her lumbar spine between L4 and L5. This turned out to be a staph infection (This is something that naturally grows on everyone's skin). It had been there for a long time, but after surgery the infection spread like wild fire and Kim went into septic shock. This is a very deadly infection that has killed many, much of the time it goes undiagnosed until it's too late. That is not the case with Kim though, she was properly diagnosed it just overwhelmed her body so fast the Doctors couldn't get ahead of it.

Kim was on a ventilator for eleven days in STICU at CAMC General in Charleston WV. She was transferred to MICU five days after that, she was unable to swallow due to aspirating into her lungs. They had to put a feeding tube in her stomach so she could recieve nutrition. She spent fifteen days in MICU before being moved to Four South.

The medication that was used to save her life killed her arms and legs. She has had a total of four surgeries.

Kimberly's life now:

Kimberly currently has 3 prothetic limbs. Though she can function and do simple tasks, it's not ideal for her being a single mother of three children. Passionate is 13, Keira is 7 and last but most certainly not least is Avion who is 4.

Kim stuggles on a daily basis with things we all take for granted, because she is a quad amputee. The biggest is taking care of her children. The second is her independence.  Cooking isn't an option with her claw on her only prosthetic arm.  Running after her 4 year old Avion isn't an option either considering her prosthetic legs unlock on her constantly. (She has actually fallen down stairs because of her legs unlocking and falling off).  Going to the bathroom on her own is a struggle. Getting her clothes on is a chore. I am sure you can imagine yourself without arms and legs and invision what your life would be.

With that being said, she has made many trips to her prosthetic doctor in attempts to get appropriate legs and arms that suit her and her single mother lifestyle. Unfortunantly State Insurance doesn't see a need for her to have more advanced prosthetics, let alone a right  arm. Sad right?

Kim is wanting to raise money in order to get HER LIFE BACK!!!! I know that $200,000.00 sounds like a lot. Unfortunantly it won't cover but maybe 2 out of the 4  prosthetics that she needs. But this would be an excellent start on the road to independence for her and her kids!!! Please help support Kim and her children on their road to a better more independent life. Every little bit helps!! God Bless!!
