Kimberly's Trip to Women's Summit

A friend suggested I start one of these campagins. Anyone who knows me knows that I am usually a giver, and have a hard time accepting anything from anyone. But this is going to be such a life changing, once in a lifetime opportunity for me, I thought I would give this a shot! I am still just speechless I was picked to attend The United State Of Women Summit in Washington, DC June 14th 2016! My passion in life is empowering women to overcome abuse and be all they can be! And to educate people that abuse is SO much more than just hitting! I partnered with The National Domestic Violence Hotline to share my story on how I helped my mom escape her 24 year abusive marriage to my father.I was able to attend The Hotline's 20th Anniversary Banquet in Austin, Tx on Feb 20th 2016. I was honored to meet the CEO of The Hotline, Katie Ray-Jones who said my story is remarkable! I share how the cops and CPS would not help us, that my only hope was when I would call the Hotline everynight to talk to an advocate. We have got to have a change in our justice system when it comes to domestic violence! So many women and children, like my mom and sisters, were left helpless because nobody wanted to help! I am the definition of a true survivor, because I was taken away and given to my grandparents as a child due to my fathers abusive behaviors. I am a survivor of childhood domestic violence and it is amazing to look back on all I have overcome, and my hard work is paying off! I am living proof you can overcome a traumatic childhood, and come out strong! My focus points are educating people on financial abuse, that was a big factor in my moms abuse, because she had no access to her own money. How could anyone leave abuse without the proper financial needs to escape? That's why many victims are stuck. Also, our Child Protective Services are failing families all over the world just like they did mine, ignoring the issues at hand and not giving the family and children all the help they need! We must keep fighting for a change in our justice system to further protect abused women and children! This is my passion in life, and what I know I'm meant to do. Is share my incredible story, and let others know it is NEVER too late to live a life free of abuse and control! My plane ticket has generously been covered by a dear friend of mine. Now, All I need to pay for is my hotel and food for the trip. The hotel will be $779 for 3 nights due to it being such a big travel season, rates are spiked up right now! Any amount will help! Also even for the cost of food and Uber fees to get around! Even $5 would cover to buy myself a water bottle to drink while I'm there! Any donations would be so greatly appreciated, for those who know me, you should know I hate I'm even making one of these right now! LOL!
