content warning: vehicular accident involving injury and death

The Accident

On the early morning of April 3rd, Kiley and two others were returning home from a going-away party for Kiley when they were involved in a horrific car accident on Interstate 20.

In the accident, a vehicle involved in a prior accident was spun out perpendicular to the flow of traffic with no headlights on. Kiley's car crashed into this vehicle, resulting in a loss of life for its occupant and creating a dangerous multi-car collision in which two vehicles erupted in flames.

Kiley's Injuries

We are deeply saddened by the accident, but are grateful that Kiley and her friends survived.

In the accident, Kiley suffered many serious and life-threatening injuries including:

- A laceration of her brachiocephalic artery
- Renal laceration (Kidneys)
- Trauma and fracturing of the sternum
- Laceration of the spleen
- Laceration of the liver

Kiley's injuries caused her to bleed internally and the first days of her 11-day stay at Grady Hospital were a time of sustained pain and fear. Her surgeon later told us that she was very lucky to survive at all.

Complications and Stroke

On the 10th of April, early in the morning, Kiley had a TIA, also known as a "mini-stroke." Her injuries caused by the accident, specifically the lacerated brachial artery, had created a blood clot that required surgery.

This time was very scary for her, our sister Amber who was with her at the time, and the rest of her friends and family. Luckily, Kiley has not lost any motor skills on the left side of her body, but may notice weaknesses there for the rest of her life.

Kiley's Future and What She Needs

Kiley is moving to New York City. She has always been focused and skillful in all areas of interest - yoga, soccer, swimming, cheerleading, ballet, and more. She has been acting in commercials and television for the last 3 years and, from my knowledge of her past, it is a near certainty that she will be able to achieve whatever she aims for if she is given the opportunity. For her acting career to move forward, she and her agent have decided it is time for her to move to New York. And that very decision is what her and her friends were celebrating the night of her accident.

To continue, Kiley needs our help.

Kiley needs help recovering the costs she has already invested in a move to New York, which she is now not able to do until her body is healed from her injuries. Plane tickets and a deposit on an apartment, plus the cost of moving her belongings have all been spent. In the meantime, Kiley is unable to work. Thankfully, insurance will cover many of her medical costs, but these other  inconveniences are a total loss for her. We are asking for your help to offset the financial burden and stress this accident has placed on Kiley.  With our help, she can still move to New York,  she can pay for her life until she can work again, and we can illustrate our care and love for her in this time of turmoil and distress.
