Kigamboni Circus Collaboration

Fractal Tribe is collaborating with the Kigamboni Community Center (KCC), a grassroots nonprofit organization in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania  that is using circus and education to empower the youth in their community. In Dar es Salaam, many children live on the streets often come from far away, expecting to have a better life in Tanzania’s biggest city. There are an estimated 437,500 street children in Tanzania resulting from poverty, loss of family, abuse, and limited access to opportunities such as quality education.

KCC has been able to use circus, music, dance, and education to bridge this marginalized group of youth with the greater Kigamboni neighborhood. The KCC has grown to now serve 300+ children, providing them with shelter, access to primary school education, and social development in a safe environment.

This August, Fractal Tribe members will travel to Tanzania for two weeks and meet with 30 students from the KCC community to skillshare and collaborate on a circus production. This production will tell stories of the KCC students surrounding their experiences as street children. At the end of the two weeks, the show will be presented to communities is Dar es Salaam! Throughout the trip we will be creating a short film about KCC, its members, and their contribution to the community.

The money raised from this campaign will go towards providing lunch for the children and KCC staff members in our program, providing equipment and first aid for KCC. Additional funds will be used for the film project and to supplement some of the expenses of our trip.
