Hi Everyone!

I wanted to make this Go Fund Me for our good friend Dex!

Four years ago, Dex was told he needed to lose weight because his blood pressure was strangely high. After losing some weight, Dex was convinced that the weight wasn't the only issue. Several doctor's appointments and tests later, he was told, at not even 30 years old, that he had Stage 4 Kidney Disease.

Two years after this diagnosis, Dex caught pneumonia, which knocked out the rest of his kidneys' functioning completely.  Today, he spends 8 hours a day on dialysis. Dex is on a kidney transplant list and is taking the steps to aggressively get on as many as possible! This takes time away from work and money to travel to different transplant centers, which could potentially be in different states.

Dex has continued working as a 911 Dispatcher for Seminole County, FL throughout all of this. He plans to continue to work, but being able to take time off for doctor's appointments and travel to transplant centers with financial ease has become increasingly more difficult. What Dex will need to do in the coming months is get on as many transplant lists as possible, which includes extensive testing/screening and TIME!

I wanted to put this Go Fund Me together to help raise some funds for Dex so he can prioritize his health and get the transplant he needs ASAP!

Also, receiving a kidney transplant isn't as easy as having a person in need and just anyone (preferably living) willing to give up one of their organs. There are many factors including overall health, weight, height, blood type, etc, that all contribute to finding the right donor with a viable kidney. With that said, I wanted this Go Fund Me to serve as a platform to get the word out in case there is someone out there that could be a match for Dex! Dex is in process of finding out his blood type and I will update as soon as possible.

Please share with as many people as possible and let's get Dex a new shiny kidney!

Also, in case you can't give financially, but want to help in one way or another, sign up to be an organ donor!

Can't commit to giving up an organ while you're alive? No problem, give them away when you're dead! You don't need them anyway. -

Hi everyone, here’s the latest from Dex.

I'm out of the hospital but they don't know what's causing the pain. The doctors think that my dialysis not working 100% and leaving too much toxins in my body. I also can not return to work unless I have medical clearance but my doctor doesn't want me to work. Those who know me know that's not an option and I'm trying to get the clearance but it might take awhile. Once again thank you for all the love and support

Update from Dex:
"I'm truly humbled by the continued show of love and support of so many people. Everyone's kind words, thoughts, donations, and prayers has shown me I'm not in this alone. I don't normally show or tell my feelings but when I received a lot of this news I was in a bad place. I always tried to stay positive but it was truly hard and tiring then I received the recent update that my dialysis wasn't working 100% I was truly down and almost out. None of you realize how much all of you have lifted my spirits and given the hope I need to stay positive. I just want to say thank you again for all everyone has done and I truly love you all. - Dex"

3/13/18 Update:

Dex had a doctors appointment today to determine the effectiveness of his current dialysis treatment.

The verdict was that his current treatments aren't working to capacity, so they want him to use a stronger solution and be on the dialysis machine longer (more than 8 hours a day).

If that doesn't work then he will have to switch to hemodialysis. In hemodialysis, a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney, or a dialyzer, are used to clean your blood. To get your blood into the dialyzer, the doctor needs to make an access, or entrance, into your blood vessels. This is done with minor surgery, usually to your arm.

If Dex needs to switch to hemodialysis, he will need to undergo surgery and begin going to the clinic three times a week. This will take away more of his freedom and time.

This will also require Dex to take off more time from work and limit his ability to travel to other transplant centers.

Thanks for your support and please keep sharing this page!
