$15,531 of $30,000 goal

Neako Pena, 4 and Kashton Pena, 1 lost their father, Nate Pena, on Monday June 18th in the shooting on Riley Drive. Both Neako and Kashton are left to live their lives without a father from this tragedy. Neako was shot in the chest and life flighted to a Peoria Hospital in critical condition.  Upon arrival Neako had two collapsed lungs and he was placed on a respirator. Doctors also discovered he was paralyzed from the waist down. Despite surgeries to remove a hematoma from his spine, Neako is still currently paralyzed. There is hope, that with treatment, things could get better in the next 12 weeks, but it does not look good.

These two young boys are left with an uphill battle for the rest of their lives.  My name is Matt Sweeney and I am from Bloomington, IL.  I am the uncle of Nate Pena and great Uncle of Neako and Kashton.  I am raising money which will go to my sister, Nate's mother, Stacy Sweeney and placed in a bank account she set up for the benefit of these two boys.  The money will be used solely for current and future medical expenses, long term care, rehab, and making everything wheelchair accessible and accommodating for Neako.

7/26/18 Hi guys! I have good news about Neako. Monday 7/23/18 he was taken off the ventilator again and has not had to be re-intubated. Today he was able to eat real food and we sat on an outside patio in his wheelchair! He seems happy and is slowly getting his voice back. He has progressed leaps and bounds since Monday! I appreciate everyone's thought's prayers and donations:) -Stacy Sweeney

7/03/2018 In the past 2 weeks, Neako has experienced both ups and downs. He remains on the ventilator and still has no movement in his legs. He is fighting pneumonia and is spiking fevers. He is less sedated and we get glimpses of his little personality. Many thanks for all the donations and continued thoughts and prayers. We appreciate this as we embark on this long journey to his recovery. -Stacy Sweeney-Neako's Memaw and Matt's Sister

Hey eddybody! Thank you so much for the overwhelming support. I see that maybe I should have introduced myself and explained more in-depth where these generous donations will be going and how they will be used. This is something that has been discussed between the Sweeney and Pena families.

I’m Matt Sweeney, uncle to Nate, his mom is my sister. Nate was the primary caregiver of his two sons. We are worried about long term medical prognosis and medical expenses that may come with that.

The donations raised here will be used solely for the needs of Neako and Kashton.

Thanks again y’all! Our families have been overwhelmed by the responses!
