Building My Non Profit for Sex Ed

$2,689 of $3,000 goal

Raised by 70 people in 1 month
I have very exciting news! For the past few months I have been working tirelessly on a new project through my high school’s Independent Research Seminar. They have granted me a semester to research, build, and operate my own non-profit organization and my hard work is finally paying off.

I am incredibly passionate about many things, however the current state of Pennsylvania’s sex education is particularly troubling.

My non-profit, named Keystone CASE (Coalition for Advancing Sex Education) is tasked with spreading awareness for comprehensive sex education and lobbying PA politicians to enact this legislation.

This is important to me and many Pennsylvanians across the state.

America is a nation that glorifies sex -- sometimes too much.  In a country that seemingly holds sexuality on a pedestal, it would seem natural to equip our youth with a toolbox full of ways to understand such a society. However, in many states, specifically Pennsylvania, this is not the case.

Digging into the current guidelines set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, we see vague and outdated mandatory proficiency goals for students. The last update to these guidelines was published in July 18th of 2002—nearly 15 years ago! It fails to account for over a decade’s worth of new research on adolescent health and sexual behavior.

This means our students are not learning how to properly use FDA approved contraceptives, family planning, STD prevention, healthy relationships, and more. This is a serious problem that jeopardizes public health.

I have attached an in depth look at Pennsylvania's requirements so you can see for yourself!

Keystone CASE is the solution. We are committed to enacting bipartisan legislation that advances sex education in Pennsylvania. But, I need your help.

Building a nonprofit costs money. Beyond legal expenses, Articles of Incorporation, and other start-up costs, I would like to build a website. I will need approximately $1,500.00 to get this non-profit started and it is crucial that I raise this money before my deadline of March 25th. Will you help?

I am asking you to support this non-profit because I firmly believe that CASE will help educate adolescents to make informed decisions. Your donation will go directly to supporting start-up costs.

All donors will receive early access to materials and legislation before anyone else, and will also be invited to a monthly conference call with updates.

Please donate any amount you are comfortable with to help support this initiative.
Thank you in advance for supporting my effort.

It has been a full week since the launch of my GoFundMe and the response has truly been amazing. About 70 different people contributed to the startup of Keystone CASE with an average donation of $39.

As of now, we are only $500 dollars away from my goal of $3,000 dollars by March 25th. I think we can make it! Want to help push us over the edge?

Together we can make the goal by sharing on Facebook and telling friends who might be interested.

In the mean time, I've been busy working behind the scenes. The next steps for Keystone CASE includes being incorporated and launching our website & logo.

We have already launched our Facebook. You can like and share the page here:

One thing everyone can do that makes an enormous difference is inviting their friends to like the page. By sending individual invites to Facebook friends, we will be able to increase our social reach!

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at I will get back to all questions in a timely manner!

Thank you again for all the support. It means so much to me.

It has officially been twenty-four hours since the launch of my fundraising campaign and I am truly speechless.

Last Friday, I purchased $25 dollars worth of supplies (Notebooks, Envelopes, ect.) at OfficeMax. I was afraid that I may not raise enough to cover the cost of just those supplies.

My original goal, which covers the bare minimum of non-profit startup, was $1500. Together we blew past my goal in less then a day.

I a deeply humbled to learn that so many of my friends, family (and even strangers) believe in my work. A very special thanks to Marty Molloy who generously donated $500 dollars to support may initiative.

I am committed to transparency. That's why I've released my financial breakdown of the new goal of $3000 by March 25th. This new goal will allow me to produce more work and create a more supported organization. You can view the financial breakdown here:

In addition to the breakdown, I am making a promise to you that all of my financial records regarding Keystone CASE will be quarterly uploaded onto my upcoming website in an initiative to create total transparency.

Thank you again for your support. Please continue sharing this post with friends you know would be interested.
