Kevin and Sid's remarkable Ironwill
$20,691 of $20,000 goal
Sid's bucket list and lifelong goal is to be able to particpate in the Hawaii Ironman and the Victor Harbour traithlon which he is the race director.
This is where I come in. To help Sid participate in the Hawaii Ironman, I will swim 3.8km while towing Sid in a inflatable boat, ride 180km with Sid's chair (to be custom made) attached to the bike, and run 42.2km while pushing Sid in a custom made 3-wheel wheelchair.
I have created this fundraising page to raise funds for the equipment required for us to complete these triathlons/ Ironman safely and for the cost of 4 caregivers/support crew for Sid.
Sid has done a lot for the sport of triathlon in South Australia, which has seen him win many awards for his Victor Harbor triathlons, including being inducted into the Triathlon SA Hall of Fame
To complete his triathlons and the Hawaii Ironman is a dream that now will become a reality thanks to your support.
Let’s do this for Sid.
This has been a remarkable journey leading up to Kona. Sid has lost over 16kg, raced his own triathlon for the first time, completed his first marathon, completed the famous Brighton classic swim, completed the Sufferfest half Ironman at Murray Bridge and finished the City to Bay under 50 minutes.
I have personally seen a much happier and renewed passion in Sid and have enjoyed the challenges that we have faced together. We both have been very humbled by the community support and by the by the whole triathlon family. Sid had his entry for his first Ironman on the table before his accident and unfortunately his dream of competing in an Ironman was taken from him. Sid’s passion to complete an Ironman is still very strong and I am devastated we got so close and it got taken away from him again.
The whole team is still travelling to Kona and Ironman have agreed to give Sid a VIP behind the scenes experience. I will race for Sid and when I cross the finish line Sid will be there to congratulate me. I will take the finishers medal off my neck and put it around Sid’s neck and say you will become an Ironman and pledge that I will fulfil his dream to be called an Ironman. We have all the equipment and expertise to seek permission to complete an Ironman together somewhere, maybe Busselton next year or Challenge Family might accept us.
The following is a broad breakdown of how the Go fund me donations and fundraising has been spent;
“Miss Daisy” Sid’s racing chair, Kayak and upgrades to bike and chair, $11,180
ADA car hire, airport transfers, hospital bed and patient lifts for Sid $4,265
Part payment towards Flights and Accommodation for the Doctor and 4 Carers $10,000
Sid and other fundraising have paid the remaining costs for flights and accommodation for the Doctor and 4 carers.
We understand if you require a refund for your generous support, please send a return email on the go fund me page and I will transfer the money back.
Sid and I have faced many challenges to finally get entry to compete at Kona and we will continue our endeavour elsewhere so Sid can finally hear the words “Sid James you are an Ironman”.
Thank you so much for your support
Kevin and Sid
Devastating news! Kevin and Sid, you must be so disappointed after proving yourselves magnificently in preparation for the Ironman. Keep going until you reach your goal, I'm sure everyone will continue to support your efforts.
So sad to hear the latest news. I hope you both realize that just watching the journey has been motivating and inspirational at the very least. I for one will be ready with another donation as soon as you set your next goal. Best wishes for Kona, I hope we get to see you place the medal around SIDS neck.
