The Kessler Presents- Relief Effort
As we have all seen the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey and the flooding it has caused, many of you have asked how are we doing and how can you help. As Texan’s we are self-sufficient and a proud group; we will deal with this challenge. We don’t usually ask for help, but this time we need it. The good news for us is that our venue, The Heights Theater in Houston, and our Height’s crew are both safe and dry.
Our Phase 1 plan is listed below. After we are on the ground for a few days, we will come back with Phase 2.
The Kessler Presents, the operating company of The Heights Theater, is putting up $5k and challenging you to give whatever you can with a goal to raise $10k (goal updated!) in the next 48 hours. 100% of those monies will be given directly to people on the ground in Houston before the weekend is over. Those monies will be used to help those in the most need in the service industry, as well as providing meals for first responders.
We work in the creative and service industries, so we know firsthand that many live without much of safety net. If the local artists are not gigging and the bartenders are not pouring, they are not getting paid. Our first obligation is to our Heights family, so we'll be taking care of them, as well as other creatives in the community. We have many, many friends on the ground that know exactly who is in dire need and where exactly these monies need to go.
In addition, because The Heights Theater is on high ground and we have a commercial kitchen, the City of Houston has asked us to be an official make-ready kitchen that will provide meals for first responders. We are honored and will gladly open our doors to help those heroes. We have no idea on the number of meals we’ll be serving, but we are preparing for thousands.
The Heights Theater is ready to serve its community in a time of need, but it is also ready to resume operations. We believe the best thing we can do is return to some level of normalcy as soon possible. We will come back with Phase 2 once we've been on the ground and assessed the situation.
