After losing every material thing in Katrina, and many immediate, everyday family circle also, we were able to buy a home in the area we evacuated to. My wife and I gained custody of my granddaughter when our daughter was robbed and murdered in her FEMA trailer. A few years after I had to stop working due to a medical condition and started receiving disability. I refinanced my home to make it affordable for my income and also secure a place for my granddaughter since she was now an orphan after her dad passed away with a bacterial infection. Right after that I started getting solicitations for a loan modification telling me to apply before it's too late. I called one of the mailed cards which was from an attorney in Atlanta. I paid him a lot of money to get my note lowered. It tuned out he scammed me forcing me to fall behind to where I couldn't afford the lump sum to catch up. I was able to sue and recover my money back but didn't foresee what was to come meaning I was falling farther behind. Now my house was sold at an auction without even a notice and we can't afford to buy another home or will I qualify. We have contacted every agency we can think of for help. I have until the 12th and the sheriff will physically remove us and confiscate anything on the property.
