Chive on North Dakota presents Kennedy’s Feat
It is that time again. Time for all of us to get together for an amazing cause!
I would like to introduce you to a family with a very special little girl. They are one of our own (COND) and could definitely use some love from all of us!
When Matt and Miranda Fylling found out that they were expecting another child they were behind thrilled to add a 4th to their family. Wanting to keep the gender a surprise, they simply focused on a healthy baby. When baby was 20 weeks, they received news no parent ever wants to hear…their baby was going to need a bit more than just love. Ultrasounds showed the baby has bilateral club feet, along with some concerns with the way her fingers and toes were developing.
On March 8th, 2017 the Fylling's welcomed a beautiful baby girl into this world. Kennedy Faith proved she was a fighter right from the beginning. Born by a scheduled c-section, she came out breech with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. She did not breathe for the first 5 minutes of life and CPR had to be administered. She was then rushed to the NICU for further treatment. With a drive to strive, she was home with her family after only a week in the NICU!
Kennedy was born with bilateral club feet, as well as Streeter’s Dysplasia; causing her fingers and toes to not fully develop as well as grow together. Streeter’s Dysplasia is an extremely rare disorder that affects 1 in 15,000 live births.
Over the course of the next year Kennedy will need to make several trips to Bismarck, Fargo, and Minneapolis for treatment and surgeries. She will need to have a series of 6 weekly casts for her feet, followed by tendon surgery. After the surgery is completed, Kennedy will need to go through a process of braces over the next 4 years. She will also need to have extensive surgery to correct her hand when she is about 1 year old!
